General Motors (GM) announced last week the purchase of a 25% stake in the company Pure Watercraft, which is based in Seattle and specializes in developing solutions for electric boats. The partnership between Pure Watercraft and GM evolves with the vision of promoting sustainability through an expansion of emission-free mobility in maritime transport. According to the Vice President of Global Electrification, Software, Controls, and Electronics at General Motors, Dan Nicholson, the partnership between the two companies demonstrates another opportunity to extend the company’s zero-emissions goal beyond the automotive sector.

Companies To Produce Electric Boats Focused On Maritime Transport Using GM Technology
The Pure Outboard from the electric boat company utilizes innovative efficiency to enhance vehicle performance, reducing environmental impacts and having significantly lower maintenance and operating costs than conventional propulsion systems for maritime transport vehicles.
The collaboration between Pure Watercraft and GM will leverage innovative electric boat propulsion technology and Pure’s experience in the commercial maritime transport sector, combined with General Motors’ engineering, production, and supply chain capabilities.
With the new partnership, the companies are expected to create and sell electric boats that use batteries, with technologies from General Motors across various applications, contributing to the acceleration of the sector towards electric and carbon-free mobility.
General Motors Advances With Green Hydrogen System In Aircraft
General Motors is working on multiple fronts for sustainable mobility. The company is developing, alongside Liebherr-Aerospace, a fuel cell system that could be used in aircraft.
The system is still in the early stages of development and will be tested in a laboratory at Liebherr-Aerospace, where the company is also working on other alternative propulsion systems for air transport.
According to the General Manager of GM Hydrotec, Charlie Freese, aircraft are an excellent testing ground to assess the versatility and performance of Hydrotec cells, which are already active in maritime, land, and rail transport.
