Federal Police Seizes R$ 37 Million in Gold After the Brazilian Government Intercepts Aircraft in Boa Vista. Operation Investigates Links to Illegal Mining.
The Brazilian government intercepts an aircraft and seizes R$ 37 million in gold in Boa Vista after an emergency operation was launched on Tuesday (2), when Federal Police agents approached a private plane that had just landed at Boa Vista International Airport.
The action began after the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) identified inconsistencies in the flight plan and requested immediate verification.
This inspection led to the discovery of 54 bars of gold valued in millions, hidden inside the aircraft, as well as a firearm, ammunition, and cell phones.

The rural caucus is advancing in Congress to try to block the use of Ibama satellites in remote embargoes, targeting a system that identifies illegal deforestation in real time and jeopardizing one of the most efficient tools used by the government to block devastated areas in the Amazon, prevent access to rural credit, halt deals with meatpackers, and curb the advance of environmental destruction across thousands of hectares.
The seizure took place in Roraima, during an intensification of federal actions against illegal mining, precisely because authorities fear the operation of criminal networks that exploit minerals without proof of origin.
Anac Intelligence Led to Aircraft Interception
Thus, the operation began when Anac intelligence detected irregularities in the aircraft’s flight plan. Following this alert, the Federal Police was called for an emergency approach at the time of landing.
During the inspection, accompanied by the Government House, agents located 54 bars of gold hidden in internal compartments of the aircraft, as well as a Glock G25 .380 caliber pistol, ammunition, and various cell phones.
All materials were immediately collected and sent for forensic analysis. According to the initial assessment, the total value of the seized gold amounts to R$ 37 million, reinforcing the seriousness of the occurrence.
Federal Police Investigates Links to Illegal Mining Networks in the Amazon
Thus, the Federal Police is now working to determine the origin of the mineral and investigate whether there is a connection with gangs specialized in illegal mining in the Amazon region.
The suspicion arises because the route used by the plane and the clandestine transportation method are compatible with illegal mining practices, especially in areas close to the Yanomami territory.
The Federal Police escorted the pilot and other occupants of the aircraft for questioning immediately after the seizure.
“The Federal Police is investigating the origin of the gold and whether the shipment is linked to illegal mining networks operating in the Amazon region.”
Government House Reinforces Monitoring and Combat Against Illegal Mining
Created in March 2024, the Government House plays a strategic role in coordinating federal operations against criminal activities in Indigenous lands.
The agency brings together dozens of institutions to monitor and dismantle routes used by illegal mining, especially in the Yanomami territory, the largest in Brazil.
With this new operation, the Brazilian government intercepts an aircraft and seizes R$ 37 million in gold in Boa Vista, expanding the impact of the actions.
Since the start of Government House activities, authorities have removed 249 kg of gold from circulation in Roraima, equivalent to R$ 179 million at current prices.
Detained Individuals May Face Multiple Federal Crimes
The Federal Police Superintendency in Roraima received the pilot and passengers, who are still providing clarifications on-site.
Thus, the Anac is also monitoring the case and is expected to apply administrative measures, such as the seizure of the aircraft and the suspension of the pilot’s license.
According to the Federal Police, those involved may face charges such as:
usurpation of federal property;
illegal mineral extraction;
irregular gold transport;
criminal association;
illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
These infractions may result in severe penalties, reinforcing the strict nature of federal actions.
Operation Reinforces National Effort Against Illegal Mining
This episode demonstrates once again how the Brazilian government intercepts aircraft and seizes R$ 37 million in gold in Boa Vista as part of a broader strategy to combat illegal mining and the organizations financing these activities.
Moreover, the significant volume of gold seized highlights the economic dimension of the criminal networks operating in the region.
Thus, investigations continue, and new developments may occur in the coming days.
