Tyler Wallis Bought An Item On Facebook Impulsively And Became A Sensation When Revealing That The Second-Hand Table Was An Expensive Italian Design Item
Tyler Wallis, 33, a resident of Fayetteville, Arkansas (USA), became a topic of discussion on social media after making a surprising discovery. Passionate about thrifting and decor, he bought a flower-shaped coffee table for just US$ 120 (R$ 668.93) in a Facebook marketplace listing. What he didn’t expect was that the item was valued between US$ 2,250 and US$ 8,250 — up to R$ 45.99 thousand.
The story went viral in May after being shared on Reddit. Using the profile @tlrwlls in the r/ThriftStoreHauls community, Wallis posted photos of the table in his living room and also screenshots of websites where the same piece from the luxury Italian brand Cattelan Italia was listed for much higher prices. The post has already amassed more than 11,000 likes.

It looks like China or Europe, but it’s in Brazil: a circular hotel in João Pessoa draws attention on the beachfront with 170 apartments, a tropical courtyard, swimming pools, and views of the sea or internal gardens.
When he saw the flower shape of the tabletop, he knew right away it was something different. “I always joke that every piece should be a conversation starter. This table is exactly that!,” he said.
According to him, the taste for decor comes from his childhood. As a young boy, he used to visit thrift stores with his older brother on weekends.
Today, he maintains the habit: he visits second-hand stores one or two times a week and still goes to flea markets biweekly. The result of this routine has turned into a personal collection — about 85% of his home decor consists of second-hand items.
The Moment Of Discovery
The famous table appeared in a listing on April 22. The post had only one image, but Wallis sent it to six friends. Everyone gave the same response: buy it now. Even in doubt, he researched the item and discovered its true value on auction sites.
“That’s when I realized it was a once-in-a-lifetime discovery and I closed the deal immediately“, he recounted.
But there was a challenge: transportation. The table was 45 minutes from his home, and his car is a compact Chevrolet Spark. Upon arrival, he was greeted by an elderly couple.
The man offered to help and together they managed to fit the piece into the car, vertically, through the passenger door.
At home, the table not only fit perfectly into the decor but also became a highlight. “It’s the perfect complement and brightens the room with its reflective surface,” he explained.
Excited about the find, he added: “This table has definitely become my new personality and I think I will never stop talking about it to anyone willing to listen.”
Rare Table: Reaction On Social Media And Final Decision
On Reddit, the comments came flooding in. “The thrift gods were watching over you today!,” wrote one user.
Another joked: “I heard the best way to take care of your glass coffee table is to leave it in your front yard and send me your home address.”
A third commented: “I love how it’s slightly fun but still chic and doesn’t fall into that weird vibe.”
Despite all the value involved, Wallis has made it clear: he will not sell the table. “To me, thrift stores mean finding interesting deals, not making a profit,” he stated.
