The Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) Offers Hundreds of Vacancies in Free Undergraduate Courses, with Selection Based on the Performance of ENEM 2023.

The Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) announces the opening of more than 700 vacancies in various free undergraduate courses for the first semester of this year, available through the Unified Selection System (SISU). Candidate selection will be conducted exclusively based on the results obtained in last year’s National High School Exam (ENEM), ensuring a meritocratic and accessible admission process.

Enrollments in the Free Undergraduate Courses of IFRJ Will Close on January 25

Interested candidates for the free undergraduate courses at the Federal Institute must register on the Sisu Portal from January 22 to 25 and choose one of the available vacancies in IFRJ’s undergraduate courses. In total, the Federal Institute will offer 723 vacancies through Sisu.

In each program, 50% of the vacancies will be filled by candidates choosing the General Competition mode, and 50% will be filled by candidates choosing the Affirmative Action mode, distributed according to the established legislation.

The vacancies in IFRJ’s free undergraduate courses that are not filled after the regular call will be filled using the priority of the Waiting List, provided by the Sisu/MEC system.

The Ministry of Education will provide 264,254 vacancies in 127 public institutions through the Unified Selection System, the main gateway to free higher education in the country. The results of the selection process are expected to be announced on January 30 via the Unified Access Portal. Enrollment for selected candidates in the free undergraduate courses at IFRJ should take place from February 1 to 7 this year.

News from SISU 2024

One of the news for this edition is that SISU will have only one stage of candidate enrollment for vacancies in participating institutions for the year. There will be offered vacancies for free undergraduate courses with classes expected to start in the first and second semesters of this year. Enrolling in the second semester will depend on the available vacancies and the ranking of candidates. According to MEC, candidates will not be able to choose which semester to enter, as this depends on their classification in the course.

If selected, candidates must enroll at the university during the period indicated in the announcement.

However, a student’s entry into the free undergraduate course will depend on their placement concerning the available vacancies and the occupancy of these vacancies by students who are better ranked in the desired course. Thus, it will be the candidate’s classification that will determine the start of their studies in the first or second semester, according to the specific announcement of each higher education institution.
