About the Federal Institute Campus Caruaru
The Caruaru campus is part of the second stage of the expansion process of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Pernambuco (IFPE), resulting from the policy of interiorization of the Federal Network of Professional and Technological Education.
The unit was officially inaugurated on August 27, 2010, with the presence of then President of the Republic, Luís Inácio Lula da Silva.
Its creation responded to the economic vocation of Caruaru and neighboring cities, strongly directed towards the commerce, services, and industry sectors.
The choice of the first courses — Technical in Civil Engineering, Technical in Occupational Safety, and Technical in Mechatronics — was made through public consultation with the local population, ensuring alignment with the region’s development demands.
Initially, the Campus offered only the Subsequent modality, aimed at those who had already completed High School and sought technical training lasting two years.
Starting in 2012, IFPE Caruaru expanded its activities, also offering technical courses in the Integrated modality, which allows students to take both High School and technical training simultaneously, completing both in four years.
In the same year, the first higher course in Mechanical Engineering offered in the interior of Pernambuco was implemented, lasting five years.
In addition to technical and graduation training, the Caruaru Campus of the Federal Institute also offers two lato sensu postgraduate courses: Interdisciplinarity in Education and Human Sciences and Occupational Safety Engineering.
