New cold front advances through the state and triggers alert scenario with heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and hail risk in several gaucho regions
The state of Rio Grande do Sul begins the week under a scenario of heightened attention due to the advance of a new cold front, which brings with it a dangerous combination of intense rain, strong winds, and the possibility of hail. The information was released by the “National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet)”, which issued a “potential danger” alert valid between 3 PM and 11:59 PM this Monday (20), mainly covering the Northwest, Southwest, and Central regions of the state.
Furthermore, according to technical data from Inmet itself, the forecast indicates rainfall volumes between 20 and 30 mm/h, potentially reaching up to 50 mm/day. At the same time, winds are expected to reach speeds between 40 and 60 km/h, significantly increasing the risk of disruptions, such as falling trees, power supply interruptions, and structural damage.
Low pressure system intensifies instability and spreads storms across the gaucho territory throughout the week
According to Climatempo Meteorology, the instability affecting Rio Grande do Sul is directly associated with a low atmospheric pressure system that is intensifying between Paraguay and northern Argentina. This phenomenon, in turn, favors the formation of heavy clouds and expands the area of rainfall.

Inmet issued a red alert for a heatwave that will affect four Brazilian states for seven consecutive days with temperatures 5°C above average, and the phenomenon may last until the end of May.

In the middle of the farm, a shepherd finds a 20-meter dinosaur fossil in Patagonia, and the discovery intrigues scientists as it contains features that do not clearly fit into a single known group.
As a result, throughout this Monday, precipitation spreads across the West, Northwest, Campaign, South, and Southeast regions, with intensity varying from moderate to strong. Meanwhile, in Porto Alegre, the scenario is slightly different: the day starts with sun among a few clouds, but temperatures rise, creating a feeling of stuffiness, especially in the afternoon when the maximum can reach 29°C.
Even so, despite moments of sunshine, moderate wind gusts are forecasted both in the capital and in coastal areas, reinforcing the need for public attention.
Week continues with frequent rains, risk of isolated storms, and changes in daily climate patterns
On Tuesday (21), the scenario becomes even more unstable. This is because the continuous action of the low-pressure area, combined with the formation of a new cold front, intensifies conditions for moderate to heavy rain showers from the early hours of the day. The West, South, Campaign, and Northwest regions are expected to be the most affected, with the possibility of isolated storms.
Throughout the day, however, the instabilities advance and begin to affect a large part of the gaucho territory, bringing with them more intense rain, electrical discharges, lightning, and thunder. Despite this, the trend is for the intensity of precipitation to gradually decrease during the night.
By Wednesday (22), the weather remains unstable, but in a more irregular manner. In this sense, isolated showers are forecasted, especially in the northern half of the state and in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre.
On the other hand, on Thursday (23), new areas of instability will advance again over the state, causing moderate to heavy rain since the morning. The precipitation is expected to concentrate mainly in the Northern half, Central region, Metropolitan Area, and Coast, while the weather begins to gradually improve in the South.
Safety recommendations in the face of storms and strong winds
In light of this scenario, it is essential for the population to adopt preventive measures to reduce risks. In case of gusts of wind, the recommendation is to avoid taking shelter under trees, due to the danger of falling branches and electrical discharges. Additionally, vehicles should not be parked near transmission towers or advertising signs.
Another important point is to avoid using electronic devices plugged into the outlet during storms, thus reducing the risk of electrical accidents.

The information was released by G1, based on data from Inmet and updated meteorological analyses regarding the instability in Rio Grande do Sul.
