The Photovoltaic Solar Plant in Fernando de Noronha is Expected to Start Operations Before the End of 2023
On Thursday, the 5th, the Spanish group Iberdrola announced that it is planning to install its first photovoltaic solar plant in Fernando de Noronha worldwide. The company’s project will be directed by Neoenergia.
The Spanish company’s plan for the solar plant is to build photovoltaic panels on the water surface of the Açude do Xareú, as well as various sustainable energy solutions that the company is still developing.
The construction of the photovoltaic solar plant is expected to start before the end of 2023, and will have investments of around 2 million euros.

Partnership Initiative
The project for the new photovoltaic solar plant in Fernando de Noronha will be carried out in conjunction with Compesa, the Pernambuco Sanitation Company, which operates the water and sewage distribution network in Fernando de Noronha. In addition to the company, the Energy Efficiency Program of the regulatory agency Aneel will also support the construction of the plant.
The new photovoltaic plant in Fernando de Noronha will have a capacity of 630 kilowatts (kW) and will generate about 1,240 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy per year, enough to supply over 50% of the island’s consumption.
According to the energy company: “The development of its first floating solar plant will allow the group Iberdrola to test this new technology and analyze its possible expansion.”
In addition to the plant itself, Neoenergia is working on developing various sustainable solutions on the island of Fernando de Noronha to power electric vehicles operating on the island and the installation of smart electrical networks.
