In Addition to Focusing on Safety, Technology, Efficiency, and Sustainability in Logistics, the Company Encourages Economic and Social Development Where It Operates

Responsible for optimizing logistics operations through technology and innovation, the Swedish company LOTS Group, part of the Scania group, announced the expansion of its operations in Brazil to the northeastern region with a focus on transporting sugarcane and grains such as soy and corn.

In addition to Pernambuco and Alagoas, the main producers of sugarcane in the region, states like Bahia, Piauí, and Maranhão also lead in planted area and productivity growth.

“The Northeast is a very important economic hub in the country and has great innovation potential, something that is in LOTS’ DNA, which is why we are attentive to this market demand that seeks more efficient and sustainable logistical solutions,” highlights Stephanie Amaral, Head of Business Development at LOTS Group LATAM.

Founded in 2016, the company also operates in the United States, Canada, Chile, and Sweden. Present in Brazil since 2018, it already has operations in São Paulo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, and Mato Grosso do Sul.

Numbers

The company already has nearly 500 pieces of equipment under management in Latin America for sugarcane, wood, ore transportation, as well as industrial parts and supplies.

In Brazil, the company reached R$ 116 million in revenue in 2021. In 2022, the figure rose to R$ 225 million. The announced forecast at the beginning of this year is that 2023’s revenue will reach R$ 330 million.

“Our goal is to reach more regions of Brazil by investing in safety, internal training, technology, and support for local communities. The pursuit of sustainability is a priority, including the expansion of operations with vehicles powered by gas and electricity. These positive milestones reinforce our commitment to promoting a positive economic, social, and environmental impact in all areas where we operate,” she asserts.

Production in the Northeast

According to data from the Association of Sugarcane Producers, Ethanol, and Bioenergy (NovaBio) regarding the sugarcane harvest for the 2022/23 season in the North and Northeast regions, the crushing reached a total of 61.38 million tons by the end of the first half of May, significantly surpassing the numbers registered in the previous harvest, 2021/22. NovaBio also revealed a significant growth of 13.7% in crushing compared to the same period of the previous harvest, which recorded 54 million tons. This achievement also surpassed the initial projections for the 2022/23 cycle, which were 58.34 million tons by 5.2%.

“We are in the negotiation phase, tightening contact with local companies to start operating in the Northeastern agro sector later this year, and we have vehicles ready to meet the demand in the region. We want to advance in the market, and the Northeast has a very large and important economic potential for Brazil,” concludes Stephanie.
