Lula Blames The Central Bank For High Food Prices And Calls On The Population To Avoid Expensive Products To Control Inflation.
The recent rise in food prices has once again become a topic of debate in the federal government. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) blamed the Central Bank for the increase in prices and suggested that the population avoid buying products that are too expensive in order to control inflation.
The statement was made last Thursday (6), during an interview with radio stations in Bahia.
Central Bank And The Devaluation Of The Real
According to Lula, the current monetary policy of the Central Bank has a direct impact on the dollar, which ultimately pressures inflation.

“We had an increase in the dollar because we had a totally irresponsible Central Bank, which left a trap that we cannot dismantle all at once,” the president stated.
He criticized the lack of more agile mechanisms to contain price increases and emphasized that measures such as price freezes or direct inspections on farms are not feasible in the current economic scenario.
Lula Outlines Strategies To Reduce Food Prices
The federal government, according to Lula, has been seeking alternatives to control prices and reduce the impacts of inflation on the population.
“We are working, talking to entrepreneurs, using the capabilities of the ministries so that we can find a solution to reduce prices,” he said.
The main strategy advocated by the president is consumer awareness, encouraging them to boycott products with high prices.
The Role Of The Consumer In Controlling Inflation
Lula suggested that the population adopt a strategic behavior in the face of rising prices.
“If everyone had the awareness and did not buy what is expensive, those who are selling will have to lower prices to sell, otherwise it will spoil. This is human wisdom,” he declared.
He also encouraged consumers to replace expensive items with more affordable alternatives.
According to the president, this attitude can be an effective tool to pressure the market and reduce prices.
“I have said that one of the most important people to help control prices is the people themselves. If you go to a market and suspect that a product is expensive, you don’t buy it,” he stated.
Government Seeks Alternatives To Solve The Food Price Problem
Still during the interview, Lula assured that inflation related to food will be resolved soon. “I am convinced that we will solve this problem very soon,” he said.
The president highlighted that the government is in dialogue with entrepreneurs and responsible ministries to find viable solutions to the crisis.
Lula’s stance on the Central Bank reflects a conflict that has been developing over the past few months.
The high interest rate and the impact of monetary policy on the economy have been points of friction between the Executive and the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto.
Food inflation remains one of the main concerns for the government and the population.
While the government seeks alternatives to contain prices, the president bets on consumer awareness as a strategy to pressure the market.
However, experts warn that controlling inflation depends on multiple economic factors and that structural changes may take time to take effect.
