According to the portal Congresso em Foco, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with biologist Tatiana Coelho de Sampaio from UFRJ to discuss research on spinal cord injury regeneration with polylaminin, a developing medication aimed at reconnecting spinal cord neurons and advancing with Anvisa.

The meeting was announced by Belo Horizonte councilor Pedro Roussef. Tatiana coordinates the Laboratory of Extracellular Matrix Biology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at UFRJ and leads studies on polylaminin, a protein developed to stimulate the reconnection of neurons.

In a video, the scientist explained the process of research on spinal cord injury regeneration with polylaminin.

According to the article from Congresso em Foco, during the meeting, Lula, in a good-humored tone, encouraged the biologist to send a message to the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha.

Tatiana replied, stating that there is a new medication to treat people with paralysis.

She stated that the team is responding to all of Anvisa’s requirements, but it is necessary to advance to make the treatment a reality.

The research on spinal cord injury regeneration with polylaminin is still undergoing regulatory processing.

The researcher’s name gained prominence in recent weeks after a statement by the president of the Independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel David.
