The state of Maranhão will gain one of the most important works in its history, which could become the true “turning point” to transform the state into one of the wealthiest in Brazil. The State Grid, a Chinese company, recently announced that it will begin construction on the 100% renewable high-voltage power transmission line, the first in the country, generating thousands of jobs.
Works In Maranhão Can Generate Over 30 Thousand Jobs
The investment in the project is projected at around R$ 18 billion, and the Chinese company has already announced that in the first phase of the project, approximately 9,000 jobs will be created, just in the works of the Maranhão section.
In total, the works in Maranhão are expected to generate over 30 thousand new jobs, according to the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The Chinese secured the exploration of this transmission line that goes from Graça Aranha in Maranhão to Silvânia in Goiás for the amount of R$ 1.936 billion at the end of 2023.

The route of the transmission line extends for 1,468 km, passing through the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, and Goiás. According to the CEO of State Grid, Sun Peng, this is the most important project for China outside of its borders. Transmission Line Will Have 800 KV Power
According to information gathered by the media, besides Graça Aranha, which will be the main point of the project, the cities of São Domingos do Maranhão, Presidente Dutra, Tuntum, Barra do Corda, Grajaú, Sítio Novo, Porto Franco, Estreito, and other cities in Maranhão will be directly impacted by the works that will create thousands of jobs.
The works in the state of Maranhão are expected to last 72 months, and when operational, the transmission line will have a power of 800 KV, becoming one of the most important in the country.
The governor Carlos Brandão met with representatives from State Grid and the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to discuss the start of the works in Maranhão. During the meeting, which took place in the Meeting Room of the Palácio dos Leões, in São Luís, Governor Carlos Brandão asked the representatives of State Grid to ensure that all labor employed in the project is local to Maranhão.
Government Comments On The Project In Maranhão
According to the governor, in a meeting with the Chinese company, which will invest R$ 18 billion in Maranhão, following the Energy Transmission Auction held by the Aneel, the project will be initiated, which will promote significant economic growth and job and income generation for the state.
Development and environmental preservation will be evaluated with the construction of the first 100% renewable transmission line in Maranhão. The meeting last Thursday addressed issues such as environmental licensing, tax collection, and the generation of direct jobs.
According to Sandoval Feitosa, director of Aneel, this meeting marks the kickoff of the largest infrastructure project in Brazil.

Acredito que tudo que se anuncia tem suas ordem de desenvolvimento umas demora uma vida pra acontecer, hoje quero muito confiar que realmente tudo isso aconteça pois vivo no meu Maranhão e gostaria muito que uma transformação econômica comece a se desenvolver,pra mudar a vida do estado principalmente a vida das pessoas ,digo pra melhor, parabéns pelo projeto.
