The M Merchant Marine announced the opening of a public competition for admission to the Officer Training Schools (Efomm), aiming to integrate new officers in 2026.
The announcement was published in the Official Gazette of the Union in this Thursday’s edition, May 8.
In total, 374 vacancies are available, with 210 for the Admiral Graça Aranha Instruction Center (Ciaga) in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), and 164 for the Admiral Braz de Aguiar Instruction Center (Ciaba) in Belém (PA).

Participation Requirements and Application Fee
Candidates must meet certain requirements to participate in the competition.
It is necessary to be single, aged between 17 and 23 years (considering the date of January 1, 2026) and have no children or dependents.
Additionally, it is required to have completed high school.
Applications will be open from May 20 to June 2, 2025, and interested parties can register through the official Navy website: www.marinha.mil.br.
The application fee is set at R$ 100.
Competition Stages and Exams
The written exams of the M Merchant Marine competition are scheduled for August 2 and 3, 2025.
Candidates will be evaluated on multiple-choice questions about Portuguese, English, Mathematics, and Physics, in addition to an essay.
The following stages include a psychophysical evaluation, a physical test, an adaptation period, and document verification.
Training and Benefits Offered
The approved students will start their classes on February 3, 2026, after choosing between Ciaga or Ciaba during registration.
The course lasts for six semesters, in a boarding regime, and offers training in two distinct areas: nautical, which focuses on handling deck equipment, navigation, and communication; and machinery, which encompasses the operation and maintenance of engines and equipment aboard ships.
Students will have access to various benefits, including uniform, accommodation, food, medical-dental assistance, psychological, social, and religious support.
Furthermore, the initial salary is around R$ 1,500.
After completing the course, graduates undergo a minimum 12-month internship aboard merchant vessels, ultimately obtaining a bachelor’s degree in nautical sciences.
With this training, graduates integrate into the Reserve Officers’ Corps of the Brazilian Navy, holding the rank of second lieutenant.
