UK Automotive Market Falls In November, With Renault’s Sales Growth And Mercedes-Benz’s Sharp Decline.
The automotive market in the UK closed November 2025 with a decline in new vehicle sales. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the country recorded 151,154 registrations in the month. This represented a retraction of 1.6% compared to the previous year.
Still, some automakers stood out. Renault increased its sales and returned to the monthly top 10. In contrast, Mercedes-Benz deepened its decline and lost ground in the rankings.
Despite the occasional setback, the annual performance remains positive. The market accumulated 1,874,271 units in 2025. Thus, the volume was 3.4% above that recorded in 2024.

Automotive Market Slows Down In November
After two months of growth, November interrupted the upward trend. Consumers took a more cautious stance. Moreover, high interest rates and increased selectivity influenced buying decisions.
Even with the retraction, the sector maintained a solid foundation. Therefore, the monthly result does not compromise the recovery observed throughout the year.
Electric Vehicle Sales Increase And Change The Market Profile
The 100% electric vehicles gained ground in November. The segment totaled 39,965 units sold. Thus, it came to represent 26.4% of the total market.
Meanwhile, gasoline models lost momentum. Sales fell by 5.9%, although they still lead in volume. This movement reinforces the gradual shift of consumers toward electrified alternatives.
Renault Speeds Up And Returns To The Top 10 In Sales
Renault had the biggest gain of the month. The brand sold 6,276 vehicles in November. Thus, it recorded growth of almost 17% compared to the previous year.
Additionally, Renault returned to the monthly top 10 after almost two years off the list. This result reinforces the automaker’s strategy in the British market.
Mercedes-Benz Loses Strength And Deepens Recession
In contrast, Mercedes-Benz faced a significant decline. The brand registered 5,302 units in the month. Thus, it recorded a retraction of 36% compared to the previous year.
As a consequence, the automaker fell out of the top 10 again. The performance highlights difficulties in keeping pace with the competitive rhythm in the premium segment.
Volkswagen Maintains Sales Leadership
Even in a month of retraction, Volkswagen maintained absolute leadership. The automaker sold 13,072 units in November. Thus, it led the market for the 30th consecutive month.
Following closely, Audi solidified its second place. Other traditional brands experienced notable fluctuations compared to the previous year.
Ford Puma Leads Among Best-Selling Models
Among the models, the Ford Puma took the lead. The crossover sold 4,859 units in November. Thus, it topped the monthly ranking for the fifth time in 2025.
Furthermore, the model maintained its leadership in the year-to-date tally. The result reflected significant growth and strong consumer acceptance.
Renewed Ranking Reveals Change In Consumer Behavior
The models ranking showed a significant renewal. Except for one model from Volkswagen, all others were already among the best sellers in October. However, only four were present in the November 2024 ranking.
This scenario reinforces the dynamics of the British automotive market. Even with a decline in sales in November, the sector showed a clear transformation, with Renault’s advancement, Mercedes-Benz’s retraction, and the consolidation of electric vehicles.
