Financial Stability Marks the End of Year for Micro and Small Industries
Brazilian Micro and Small Industries (MPIs) in 2023 are showing financial stability, with most not facing difficulties in paying the 13th salary, according to the 9th round of the Datafolha Survey commissioned by SIMPI.
Regional Variations in 13th Salary Payment
The survey indicates that 35% of MPIs do not expect to face problems paying the 13th salary this year. However, the situation is heterogeneous across different regions of Brazil. While the Northeast region shows 14% of businesses facing difficulties, the South region has 36% encountering greater challenges compared to the previous year. These data highlight significant economic changes in different regions.
Own Capital as Main Source of Payment
Surprisingly, 85% of MPIs plan to use their own capital to cover the 13th salary, reflecting a solid financial base. The Northeast region, on the other hand, stands out by resorting to loans from other sources. This trend reinforces the idea that MPIs are well positioned financially, despite regional variations.

Diversified Strategies for the 13th Salary
Interestingly, 21% of MPIs consider the possibility of paying part of the 13th salary with their own products or services. The Northeast is again notable, with 36% of businesses considering this option. This innovative approach could be a creative solution to financial challenges, especially in areas with specific economic difficulties.
Optimism for End-of-Year Sales
Regarding end-of-year sales, 43% of MPI leaders view the period between October and December as special for sales and revenue. On the other hand, 39% consider it a normal period and 17% see it as poor. Optimism is higher in the Northeast, where 52% of entrepreneurs see this period as special for sales, possibly influenced by regional economic trends.
