The Signing of the Agreement Took Place in Belo Horizonte, Reinforcing the Interest of Companies in the National Energy Market. Thyssenkrupp and Unigel Will Unite Forces to Expand Green Hydrogen Productivity at the Plant Under Development in Bahia.
During the visit of the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck, to Belo Horizonte, Thyssenkrupp and Unigel signed another important agreement for the national market. The companies are working on a new memorandum of understanding to expand the production capacity of Unigel’s green hydrogen plant, currently under development in Bahia. According to the companies, the plant will be the first industrial-scale facility to be installed in the national territory for the production of the resource.
Thyssenkrupp and Unigel Join Forces for Investments in Expanding Green Hydrogen Production Capacity at the New Plant in the Brazilian Market
The Brazilian green hydrogen market is becoming increasingly attractive to companies worldwide. The reason: the high production potential of the new bet for the future of the energy market.
Thus, Unigel, which was already preparing for the installation of a production plant for the resource in the state of Bahia, with an electrolyzer capacity of 60 MW to 240 MW, is expanding its scope in the project.

It announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Thyssenkrupp to expand the production capacity of green hydrogen at the new plant.
The signing of the document took place in Belo Horizonte, during German Federal Minister Robert Habeck’s visit to Brazil.
The multinational industrial solutions company highlighted that the partnership with Unigel is essential to unite forces in favor of sustainability in the global energy sector over the coming years.
According to Thyssenkrupp, Unigel’s unit will be the first industrial-scale green hydrogen plant in Brazil and is expected to be delivered by the end of the year.
This is yet another strong investment from the international market in the Brazilian energy segment, which is preparing for an intensive energy transition in the future.
The New Thyssenkrupp and Unigel Plant in Bahia Will Serve Customers Looking to Decarbonize Their Operations Using Green Hydrogen, Companies Highlight
The objective of the multinationals with the new green hydrogen production plant in Brazil is to intensively penetrate the Brazilian sustainability market.
Thyssenkrupp and Unigel expect the plant to have an electrolyzer capacity of 60 MW and an initial production capacity of 10,000 tons/year of green hydrogen.
According to the companies, the hydrogen produced at the plant will be intended for customers seeking to decarbonize their operations with the resource. Additionally, green ammonia will be used in Unigel’s value chain.
Werner Ponikwar, CEO and President of Thyssenkrupp, commented: “Brazil has not only set ambitious climate protection plans but is also implementing them. This includes, in particular, consistently exploring the opportunities offered by green hydrogen… With our technologies for developing a hydrogen economy, we are contributing to paving the way for the green transformation.”
By the end of the year, the market may witness yet another significant growth in the green hydrogen segment with the new plant from Unigel and Thyssenkrupp in Bahia.
