Otis Brazil Reduces Energy Consumption By 70% With Modernized Elevators
Otis Brazil, part of the renowned Otis Worldwide Corporation, celebrates the completion of a significant modernization project at the Birmann 21 Building in São Paulo. This milestone represents a major technological and aesthetic advancement for the 13 elevators in the building. Completed over a period of 36 months, the project adhered rigorously to the established timeline, reinforcing Otis Brazil’s reputation as a world leader in the manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of elevators and escalators.
The Marketing and Sales Director of Otis for Latin America, Fernando Peiter, highlights the importance of this project for the company. “Besides being one of the largest modernizations in Otis Brazil’s history, this project is a milestone for the company, which has installed and maintained the elevators since the inauguration of Birmann 21 in 1998. Now, the equipment has been upgraded to be the fastest in the country, reaching 7 m/s,” emphasizes Peiter.
Technological Innovation in the Heart of São Paulo
The modernization included a series of improvements, such as the replacement of cables, motors, signaling, call buttons, and doors. A special highlight was the installation, for the first time in Brazil, of the Compass® 360 destination dispatch system. This innovative technology integrates the elevator system with the building access system from the outset of the project, significantly improving system efficiency while the elevators underwent modernization.

State-of-the-Art Elevators and Sustainability
Among the modernized elevators, 11 are of the Otis SkyRise™ model, considered the most advanced for skyscrapers. Additionally, an existing elevator was aesthetically enhanced, and another was completely replaced by the Gen2® machine-room-less model, an Otis innovation that offers smoother and quieter rides.
The most impressive aspect of this project is the 70% reduction in energy consumption, thanks to the implementation of sustainable technologies such as ReGen™ drives. These devices capture the energy generated during braking, converting it into reusable electricity, perfectly aligning with Otis’s sustainability values.
