A mother and daughter duo was tasked with emptying an abandoned storage unit and ended up discovering a retro fashion treasure with more than 35,000 valuable pieces.

A routine cleaning completely changed the financial destiny of two women in the United States, who transformed an abandoned warehouse into a successful e-commerce business. In 2021, in the city of Sacramento, located in the state of California, professional organizer Scottlynn Krause and her mother accepted the task of emptying a 93-square-meter space.

The place had been sealed since 1990 and belonged to Franz, a former sports goods merchant who was active between the 1960s and 1980s. What was supposed to be just a cleaning job revealed an untouched collection with thousands of vintage clothing pieces.

The cleaning agreement that originated the stock of 35,000 pieces

This entire commercial story began in the city of Sacramento, California (USA), in 2021, when Krause, who works as a professional organizer, and her mother accepted the task of emptying a 93-square-meter storage unit.

The space belonged to Franz, the grandfather of a family friend and former owner of a sports goods store that operated between the 1960s and 1980s. The place functioned as a true time capsule, locked since 1990.

Faced with the challenge of cleaning the warehouse, Franz’s family offered a barter deal: if the two completed the removal of all the stock within a continuous period of up to 16 days, they would gain the right to keep ownership of all the merchandise.

Unaware of the real value of that lot, the two accepted. The warehouse held an untouched treasure of major brands like Nike, Adidas, Puma, and Champion, consisting of 25,000 caps, 10,000 pairs of shoes, and 2,500 pants aimed at the sport of baseball.

Homemade logistics and the routine of the mother and daughter duo

Currently, managing this entire volume of merchandise requires coordinated physical effort and occurs in parallel with the traditional jobs of the two women.

The operation is divided between the storage space and a fixed studio where Krause dedicates herself to measuring, photographing, and cataloging the items individually on the computer. The distribution of packages operates in a strictly family manner.

The mother and daughter partnership divides the tasks of printing the official shipping labels, packing the clothes, and posting the orders at the post offices in the morning or evening shifts, ensuring that the business does not interfere with the schedules of their main professions.

The sales strategy focused on digital scarcity

The initial idea was simple: liquidate all the recovered material in a large sale that would last about three months.

However, while balancing the initiative with his full-time job in the retail sector, Krause identified that the vintage pieces segment could turn into a much more profitable business than he imagined.

With this perception, he decided to structure CS80 Vintage. The brand started discreetly, participating in antique fairs at the beginning of 2022, and years later expanded its operations to an e-commerce operation, launched in December 2025.

Even after migrating to the digital environment, the sales strategy remained focused on exclusivity.

Instead of making the entire collection available at once, the company releases only small batches of products on pre-defined days. Updates occur twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, with about 25 new items in each release.

So far, only approximately 10% of all the material recovered from the box has been put up for sale, preserving most of the collection for future restocks.

For the entrepreneur, the financial gain obtained from the sales — which she compares to the feeling of “winning the lottery” — runs parallel with a much larger goal, focused on keeping alive the commercial legacy built by Franz in the last century.

As a long-term goal, Krause plans to create a line of their own textile products using old stocks and fabrics as the main raw material.
