A motorcyclist from Toledo, in western Paraná, was surprised to receive a fine of R$ 195.23 for not wearing a seatbelt while driving his vehicle. According to reports, the incident occurred on highway MG-184, in the municipality of Alterosa, in southern Minas Gerais.
As it can be seen, the peculiarity of the situation arises because motorcycles do not have seatbelts.
Furthermore, the owner explains that neither the motorcycle nor he was at the location where the alleged infraction occurred – the distance between Toledo and Alterosa is over a thousand kilometers.
In an interview with the TNOnline portal, Dileta Simonatto, wife of Armando Simonatto, the man who received the fine, explained that the notification was sent by the Department of Highways of the State of Minas Gerais (DER-MG).

The document states that in addition to the fine, her husband also received five points on his National Driver’s License (CNH).
Still according to her, as soon as she saw the letter from DER-MG, the feeling was one of strangeness and then incredulity. “When I saw the notification, I couldn’t believe it,” she confessed.
“The family almost doubted me when I told them about the fine. Since I am a good-humored person, I started laughing. But now we need to resolve this situation,” the woman said.
According to Dileta, her family lives in the district of Concordia do Oeste, and the motorcycle is only used for short trips.
“My husband uses the motorcycle to travel four kilometers a day, only during the week. He goes to and from work, totaling two kilometers per trip. Since 2018, the motorcycle has never left the community,” she concluded.
Attention to the Seatbelt
Despite the inconsistency of the fine, Dileta used the interview to highlight the importance of wearing a seatbelt when in a car. In this regard, she recalled a recent case with her husband.
According to the woman, she and her husband were making a short trip and her husband was in the passenger seat. At the time, he suggested that he didn’t need to wear the seatbelt, but Dileta reports that she stopped the vehicle and insisted that he put on the seatbelt before proceeding.
The family is now seeking to resolve the error with DER-MG, emphasizing the impossibility of the infraction, in a case that serves as a warning for possible failures in the traffic notification system.
