Discover the true story of a man who rejected the city, built his own inn, and today lives in abundance, with pure water and a simple routine that enchants visitors from all over Brazil
Life in the countryside, often romanticized, takes on real and surprising contours when we hear stories like that of Seu Eninho. At 67 years old, he remains steadfast on the same property where he was born and raised, in Delfinópolis, in the Serra da Canastra region, Minas Gerais. More than just a rural resident, he has become a symbol of resilience, simplicity, and happiness based on the essentials.
The information was released by the ‘Cantinho Rural‘ channel, which visited the property and shared details of Seu Eninho’s routine, structure, and life journey, showing how simplicity can, in practice, be a powerful and sustainable choice.
Simple life in the countryside: 67 years of history, deep roots, and an inspiring routine

From an early age, Seu Eninho built his relationship with the land. Born and raised on the farm, he watched his father build the house where he still lives today. Over time, after his parents’ passing and his siblings’ departure — there were 10 in total — he acquired the family’s shares and remained on the property.

Despite having lived for about two years in Franca, where he worked as a shoemaker, he quickly realized that the big city was not for him. Thus, he returned to the countryside, where he found not only sustenance but also purpose.
Furthermore, the property impresses with its abundance of natural resources. There are several pure water springs that supply the entire farm by gravity, without the need for pumps. In other words, the water arrives crystal clear directly from the mountains, further strengthening the connection with nature.
Another striking detail is the eucalyptus trees planted over 40 years ago, at the birth of his first child. The trees, which started as simple seedlings received from a friend, are now part of the emotional landscape and tell a story of family and permanence.
How Pousada Boa Esperança was born and the beginning of rural tourism in the region

The turning point in Seu Eninho’s life happened about 26 years ago, when a couple of tourists from São Paulo visited the property. Enchanted by the place, they encouraged the start of an activity that would change everything: rural tourism.
Even without financial resources — as he was still paying for the land bought from his siblings — the project got off the ground. With the support of visitors, it was possible to install a telephone in just two days and begin the construction of the first chalets before the October 12th holiday.
Initially, the structure was simple. Guests slept inside the family’s own home. However, over time, demand grew rapidly. By the following Corpus Christi holiday, the inn had hosted 16 couples, consolidating the success of the venture.
Thus was born Pousada Boa Esperança, considered one of the pioneers in tourism in the region. Today, even with newer, more sophisticated inns, the place continues to be sought after precisely for its authenticity.
Rural tourism on the rise: simplicity, Minas Gerais cuisine, and contact with nature attract visitors

Currently, the property offers accommodation with breakfast and dinner, always featuring typical Minas Gerais cuisine. Dishes include pork, free-range chicken, canned meat (carne de lata), artisanal cheese, and pão de queijo (cheese bread), all served à vontade (all you can eat).
Although Seu Eninho describes the food as “simple,” visitors often see the opposite: a rich, heartfelt gastronomic experience difficult to find in cities.
In addition, the space features:
- Chalets for couples and families
- Camping area with basic facilities
- Orchard with about 40 jabuticaba trees
- Raising animals such as pigs and cattle
- Abundant spring water
- Trails and privileged views of the mountains
Another highlight is a lake that, over the years, has come to be seen by visitors as heart-shaped — a curious detail that enhances the charm of the place.
Urban exodus and the search for quality of life drive interest in the countryside

With the increase in urban exodus, more and more people are seeking refuges like Seu Eninho’s. Many visitors, especially from large cities like São Paulo, show interest in acquiring properties in the region for rest and retirement.
According to reports, there is a growing demand for land and inns in Serra da Canastra. However, available space is starting to become limited, which further enhances pioneering initiatives like Seu Eninho’s.
Interestingly, this change also reveals a cultural contrast. In one account, a visitor did not want to drink freshly milked cow’s milk, preferring boxed milk — a clear example of how urban life has distanced itself from its origins.
The recipe for happiness in the countryside: less haste, more essence
In the end, Seu Eninho’s story reveals something simple yet powerful: happiness can be directly linked to connection with the land, valuing family, and a life without excesses.
Even with a modest structure, he built a solid life, based on work, hospitality, and respect for nature. As he himself says, no one owns anything — they just enjoy and take care of it.
And perhaps it is precisely this philosophy that transforms his routine into an inspiration for thousands of people.
