Petrobras Expands Pre-Embarcation Testing for Offshore Workers at Airports in Macaé, Vitória, and Others
As a safety measure to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus on offshore oil platforms, Petrobras has begun to include, starting yesterday (27), the use of rapid tests to detect Covid-19 in its pre-embarkation procedures at the airports in Vitória, Macaé, Farol de São Tomé, and Cabo Frio.
The state-owned company had already been implementing the method at Jacarepaguá Airport in Rio de Janeiro since April 20, and has now expanded it to other locations.
The rapid test is performed by collecting blood from the fingertip of the offshore worker and provides results in approximately 30 minutes, being of utmost importance to detect the presence of the virus.
In a statement, Petrobras reported that “this type of test detects the presence of antibodies in the blood and is therefore useful for identifying people who may have an active infection for a few days, but without symptoms, as well as those who may have had a past asymptomatic infection.”
