It was disclosed in the second week of April that the time in which ships are moored at the docks in the ports of Paraná has decreased considerably compared to previous years.

The time was reduced by 46% of the average time that ships wait to berth at the Ports of Paraná pier. This time in 2018 was 185 hours and in 2019 it was reduced to 99 hours.

“This efficiency reduces the costs of exporters and importers and increases the advantages of doing business through the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina”, says the president of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, referring to the permanence of the operation, which also became smaller. In 2018, the average was 58 hours on the pier, 9% more than this year (52 hours).

Related to handling, the balance highlights a 10% increase in general cargo exports and in relation to the tons of general cargo exported, there were almost 1,7 million, while in the first quarter of 208 a little more than 1,5 million were exported. These data were released on Tuesday (09/04), by the statistics department of the port administration.

Taking into account that in the quarters of 2018 and 2019, the main products handled in the segment were sugar in bags, fertilizer, boilers, cellulose, containers, steel rails and vehicles.

“In Paranaguá, general cargo is handled in different berths on the public dock. Normally, the operations of these loads involve services with specialized on-board equipment, such as cranes, local road transport, forklifts”, reported Luiz Teixeira da Silva Júnior.

According to information, the Port of Paranaguá recorded a 14% increase in the number of containers received for imports.

There were 23.516 vehicles moved via Paranaguá, which was also higher than in 2018. There were 96.039 TEUs handled in the three months of 2019, against 84.530 in 2018. The loads that were most imported were fertilizers and plastic.
