Pickup Market Is Excited with New Announcement for Brazil. The RAM Dakota Pickup May Be About to Be Launched to Compete with Models Like Hilux and Ranger.

The RAM Dakota pickup marked a generation, being a true icon of desire among Brazilians during the 1990s and 2000s. With its rugged design, impressive power, and off-road capability, it rivaled major names in the pickup market, such as Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet S10, establishing itself as a reference in performance and durability. However, its prolonged absence left a gap for fans of this segment, especially those who value the combination of American style and strength.

Now, rumors and expectations indicate that the new version of the RAM Dakota may be about to return to Brazilian dealerships, bringing with it the promise of modern technology, superior performance, and innovative features.

New RAM Dakota Pickup May Arrive Soon in the National Market?

Produced in Campo Largo since 1998, the Brazilian pickup was based on the North American model and offered a V8 engine option. 5.2 Magnum naturally aspirated, imported from the United States, with 232 horsepower and 41.6 kgfm.

However, the production of the RAM Dakota pickup in Brazil was halted in 2001, when Chrysler ceased its activities in the country. Despite this, there are rumors that a new RAM pickup will arrive to fill this market gap and compete with Hilux and Ranger.

Although no schedule has been specified, Chris Feuell, CEO of Ram, stated that a new midsize truck will be launched in the pickup market. According to preliminary information, it will be built on the STLA Frame platform, directly competing in the future with Hilux and Ranger.

The new midsize RAM Dakota pickup may adopt the STLA Large architecture, shared with the Wagoneer S and Charger Daytona, or it could be a smaller utility based on the STLA Medium platform.

When Will the New Pickup Be Announced?

Among the attributes designed to win over consumers are performance and affordability. Although North America is the main market, the new midsize RAM Dakota pickup will be offered globally.

According to the brand, the goal is not to be a niche model, but rather a utility capable of driving sales, including options for internal combustion, hybrid, and purely electric engines.

The name Dakota for the new RAM pickup has not been officially announced yet, and it may take some time before we see a completed concept from the manufacturer. New details about the Hilux and Ranger competitor will be released throughout the next year.

It appears that the new pickup will be produced at the Stellantis plant in Belvidere, Illinois (USA), as part of an agreement made with the local union after the end of the Jeep Cherokee production. The entity itself (UAW) confirmed the information at the end of last year, announcing that the plant would resume operations starting in 2027 with the arrival of a new model.

History of the RAM Dakota Pickup

The Dakota made its debut in the U.S. pickup market in 1987, when the first generation was launched. At that time, midsize pickups were gaining popularity, and the Dakota entered the market with a bold design and a versatile proposal. The model offered options for regular, extended, and crew cabs, catering to the demands of various drivers.

A notable feature of the RAM Dakota pickup was the variety of available engines. Consumers could choose between gasoline or turbo diesel 4-cylinder engines, gasoline V6, and even gasoline V8 engines. This provided a wide range of performance and efficiency options to meet individual preferences.

In Brazil, the model began its history in 1998, when Chrysler decided to invest in its lineup after the success of the Jeep Grand Cherokee in 1994. The Dakota arrived in the Brazilian market with a bold proposal and record-breaking sales.
