The Wind Energy Company Signed a Letter of Intent with the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Norte for the Implementation of a 624 MW Offshore Wind Project
Consisting of 52 wind turbines of 12 MW each, the installation of this new offshore wind energy project will cover an area of 300 square kilometers. The project includes two substations, one offshore and another onshore, the government said on Tuesday.

Municipalities Benefited by Offshore Wind Energy
To be held in the municipalities of Touros, São Miguel do Gostoso, and Pedra Grande, the offshore wind energy project is expected to take two to three years to start, according to a previous statement from the head of BI Energia, Lucio Bomfim.
Currently, BI Energia is working on a EUR 1 billion (US$ 1.2 billion) offshore wind project in the state of Ceará. The company also plans to invest 5 billion reais in the offshore wind sector of Rio Grande do Norte, as previously announced.

About BI Energia
BI Energia is one of the pioneers in investing in offshore wind farms in Brazil. Currently, the company has a project in Ceará, which began in 2016, for the installation of 59 towers, at a cost of 1 billion euros. Business leaders expect that the experience with the project in Ceará will help expedite the process in Rio Grande do Norte.
The project for the Potiguar coast envisions a wind farm covering 300 km², with 52 wind turbines of 12 MW of installed power (totaling a park of 624 MW). Two electrical substations will also be constructed; one offshore for voltage elevation and one onshore for transition. According to the company, the expected wind energy production is forecasted at 3,154,805.6 MWh per year (3.1 thousand GWh/year).
