With Ongoing Works in the Tomazinho Neighborhood in São João de Meriti, MRS Logística Is Building a 350-Meter Bridge That Should Transform the Mobility and Safety of Pedestrians, Cyclists, and Drivers. The Project Also Includes Expansion of the Bikeway and Green Areas in Partnership with the City Hall.
The construction works of the bridge in the Tomazinho neighborhood in São João de Meriti are in full development. Carried out by MRS Logística, the project’s main goal is to improve urban mobility between the neighborhoods of São Mateus and Vila Norma, bringing more fluidity to traffic and more safety for the population. The structure will include two roundabouts, a pedestrian walkway, an expanded bikeway, and urban requalification around the railway line.
Urban Integration and Safety for the Population
The new bridge will be an essential connection point for residents and workers in the region.
During a technical visit on Tuesday (01/14), the municipal secretary of Housing, Urbanism, and Public Lighting of Meriti, Leonardo Vieira, highlighted the impact of the work.

The 634-meter Tokyo Skytree tower became Japan’s tallest antenna by combining a triangular base embedded in mud, 37,000 steel parts, and a pagoda-inspired core that cuts oscillation by up to 50%, keeping 35 million connected even with 1,500 tremors per year.
“We will carry out integrated work with MRS to revitalize the areas that border this railway line, also improving urban mobility from São Mateus to Vila Norma. This new bridge will bring many benefits to the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers,” said the secretary.
Progress of Works and Schedule on Track
According to MRS engineer Jailton Moreira, the schedule is being followed as planned.
“We are in the phase of cleaning, vegetation suppression, and fabrication. The project includes the construction of the 350-meter bridge with two roundabouts, expansion of the bikeway, and pedestrian walkway, in addition to urbanization of the area in partnership with the City Hall,” explained Jailton.
The initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure where it operates.
Strategic Partnership Between MRS and the Municipality
The partnership between MRS Logística and the City Hall of São João de Meriti strengthens the integration between the private sector and public power in promoting urban improvements.
The presence of the logistics operator in the city represents not only an investment in mobility but also care for the urban environment and enhancement of degraded areas.
The Importance of MRS for National Transport
Recognized as one of the largest railway operators in the country, MRS Logística manages a network of over 1,600 km of tracks, crossing the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo — a region that accounts for almost half of the national GDP.
Founded in 1996, the company is now responsible for transporting approximately one-third of all freight by rail in Brazil.
Among the main products that transit through MRS tracks are containers, steel, cement, iron ore, coal, bauxite, agricultural products, and coke.
The company’s efficient logistics connects important industrial hubs and commodity producers to major ports in the Southeast region, reinforcing the strategic role of railways for the Brazilian economy.
Bridge Will Be a Landmark in the Urban Transformation of Tomazinho
With an expected completion in the coming months, the construction of the bridge should become a landmark for the Tomazinho neighborhood.
The work not only facilitates urban displacement but also transforms the urban space with the creation of bikeways and green areas.
The integration of mobility, safety, and urban sustainability demonstrates the potential of structural works carried out with planning and social responsibility.
