Beyond Guanabara MV31, Three Other MODEC FPSOs Appeared Among the 10 Largest Oil and Gas Producers in Brazil.
MODEC, one of the leading companies in the oil and gas sector, has once again stood out on the national scene, with its FPSOs achieving production records. According to the Oil and Natural Gas Production Bulletin from the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP), MODEC’s fleet was responsible for over 26% of national oil and gas production in 2024, consolidating its leadership position in Brazil.
MODEC at the Top of Oil and Gas Production in Brazil
Among the ten largest producers of oil and gas in Brazil, four platforms operated by MODEC hold prominent positions.
The FPSO Guanabara MV31, located in the Mero field, was the largest producer of oil and gas in 2024, maintaining the leadership it had already achieved in 2023.

For the first time since the 1962 Missile Crisis, the United States has again blocked oil tankers bound for Cuba — and the island, which needs eight shipments per month, has received only one in the last five.

OPEC+ increases oil production in June by an additional 188,000 barrels per day, but the departure of the United Arab Emirates and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz turn the announcement into a test of strength for the global market.

Energy turnaround: Venezuela’s oil exports hit highest level since 2018 and put the country back at the center of the global energy dispute.
The FPSO Carioca MV30, the FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32, and the FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí MV26 secured the third, fifth, and tenth positions, respectively, playing a crucial role in national production.
Rodrigo Rocha, Business Development Manager at MODEC, expressed the company’s pride in these results:
“This result fills us with pride. More than 26% of the national oil and gas production in the year 2024 went through MODEC’s fleet, with over 1.1 million barrels of oil equivalent produced per day, on average. This is the result of our teams’ dedication, the partnership with our clients, and the robust technical structure we have in Brazil to meet operational needs.”
Records Achieved by the Japanese Multinational in the Brazilian Pre-Salt
MODEC is not limited to leading production; it also stands out for setting historical records.
The FPSO Guanabara MV31, which had been the largest producer in the pre-salt since August 2023, reached a significant milestone in November, achieving 184,263.18 barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil and 12.04 million cubic meters per day (m³/d) of gas.
With this production, the FPSO Guanabara set the record for the highest daily production average in Brazil.
Until August 2023, this title belonged to the FPSO Carioca MV30, operated by MODEC in the Sépia field. However, the record was surpassed by Guanabara, further reinforcing the company’s prominence in the oil and gas sector.
Another impressive feat was the record time to reach maximum production capacity. The FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32 achieved this mark in just 146 days after the start of operations, a time considered exceptionally fast for the industry.
MODEC and Its Presence in the Brazilian Pre-Salt
With over 55 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, MODEC is a global leader in the construction, chartering, and operation of platforms. In Brazil, the company has a solid presence for over two decades, operating 13 oil and gas platforms.
In addition, MODEC has two other units under construction for the country, along with an FPSO in the engineering development phase. Currently, there are more than 3,200 employees working in Brazil, contributing to the company’s success and growth in the Brazilian market.
This performance of MODEC reflects not only the company’s technical competence but also its ability to innovate and meet the demands of the oil and gas market. The company continues to be a fundamental pillar for the energy industry in Brazil.
