World’s Smallest V8 Engine Created by American Company Is a “Toy” for Grown-Ups. The Stinger 609 Engine Delivers Up to 9 HP.

The world’s smallest V8 engine, a four-stroke model, can be purchased for around US$ 7,000. The Stinger 609 engine is an impressive piece that looks great on any shelf and will surely make many visitors envious. Developed by Conley Precision Engines, an American company specializing in designing and building scaled engines, this tiny V8 powerplant is a true “toy” for motor enthusiasts.

The tiny V8 engine measures just 35.5 cm in length, 15 cm in width, and 25 cm in height, including the blower. Yes, it’s true; it even has a supercharger. Moreover, the Stinger 609 engine has everything a full-sized engine has, including an electric starter, oil circuit, water cooling, belt tensioner, dual carburetor, and much more. The world’s smallest V8 engine can deliver up to 9 HP at 10,000 RPM, extracted from 100 cc of displacement.

A piece that may seem insignificant to those who do not like cars or mechanics, but a true cult object for enthusiasts willing to pay around 5,500 euros for a replica of this Stinger 609 engine. Each cylinder of the tiny V8 engine has a displacement of 12.5 ml, and the bore-stroke ratio of the pistons is 10 x 9.7 mm – for reference, the same measurement of the 1.0 engine of the VW Up is 74.5 x 76.4 mm.

A Competitor to the World’s Smallest V8 Engine?

Besides the Stinger 609 engine from the American company, Toyan Engine, a Chinese company specializing in automotive miniature components, has developed its version of the world’s smallest V8 engine, which is basically a toy for grown-ups small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

The tiny V8 engine operates just like a traditional one and is built to a 1:10 scale. The miniature can even be taken apart for anyone to see its details or the functioning mechanisms, as well as to facilitate any possible repairs. However, in this case, the owner must have the proper tools for the adjustments.

The engine has only 28 cc of displacement, which are numbers that are far removed, of course, from what full-scale engines deliver. For reference, a Coyote engine in the Ford Mustang has 5,000 cc. The small rival V8 engine to the Stinger 609 generates 4.25 HP, fed by two carburetors, has water cooling, and reaches up to 12,500 RPM.

YouTuber Builds the World’s Smallest Wankel Engine

YouTuber JohnnyW90 recreated a miniature Wankel engine. Unlike several other scaled models, the rotary engine built by Johnny is almost perfectly functional. In his first attempt, in fact, the air-fuel mixture from the tiny carburetor was too lean, resulting in the small engine shutting down.

The solution was a dual carburetor, and thus the small Wankel engine finally functioned perfectly. The model can spin between 4,000 and 14,000 RPM, a feat achieved in a very short time.

Named after its creator, German engineer Felix Wankel, and refined by Mazda, the rotary engine was abandoned with the end of RX-8 production. Since then, various talks about its return have occurred sporadically. One of the most plausible rumors is to use a Wankel engine, known for its smooth operation, as a generator to power electric car batteries.
