Commercial Flights Across Brazil Will Be Available in The City to Meet The Demand of People in The Oil Sector in Macaé

What they did not accomplish in the city of Macaé in the last 40 years of the Campos Basin, the authorities are now rushing to optimize the municipality’s revenues and improve the logistics for people. The Ministry of Transport issued a statement to Infraero (April 24) ensuring the release of works on the runway for preparation and adjustments to make commercial flights possible in the city, which today is only used to serve the offshore market of companies operating in the Campos and Santos Basins.

The company that won the bid to complete these works is from Minas Gerais; they met on the last day 27 (Friday) with the team and the superintendence of Infraero to discuss technical and bureaucratic terms of the works, which should undergo interventions starting in June. At this moment, ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency) is working on the adjustments and organization of the flights, consequently, on the authorization, planning, and release, which according to the agency’s estimates will be issued in about 30 days.

The value of the works amounted to 24 million reais and will raise the classification level of the runway to allow large commercial aircraft, which will not conflict with the helicopters that handle logistics for the oil platforms. The project also includes widening the shoulders, installing LED lights for guidance signaling, implementing vertical signage, and completely repainting the runway. The forecast is that the works will be completed within a year.

These works will solve problems in Macaé that have long troubled people who work here, as many of them come from various regions of Brazil and even abroad. Many have to travel from airports that are far from the city, taking buses or other ground transportation until reaching the municipality, which is primarily focused on the offshore sector. Domestic commercial flights will now improve and optimize costs for companies and individuals, in addition to enhancing and consolidating Macaé as a reference in these types of services. “It was necessary to face the reality of the crisis to reveal defective sectors, previously complacent due to the oil abundance,” says Paulo Nogueira, editor of the site Click Petróleo e Gás.
