Want to Pursue a Free Certified Doctorate in History? Unique Opportunity: MEC Opens 179 Spots at the Most Renowned Universities in Brazil.

Enrolling in a doctorate recognized by MEC, aimed directly at teaching practice in History, may be the next step to transform your career. The ProfHistória 2026 – Professional Doctorate in History Teaching has 179 spots open across Brazil, offering a unique opportunity for continued education for those working in Basic Education.

The national selection process is already underway and promises to attract teachers interested in improving the teaching of the subject in public and private schools.

Continued Education with Direct Impact in the Classroom

Coordinated by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and offered nationwide, ProfHistória was created to strengthen teaching in History in Basic Education.

According to the organizing committee, the goal is “to value the teacher and bring academic research closer to the reality of the school.” Recognized by CAPES/MEC, the course is in-person and leads to the title of Doctor in History Teaching.

Classes can take place from Monday to Saturday, varying according to each associated institution. The course combines in-person meetings, guided research activities, and in-depth seminars, creating a bridge between theory and practice.

How the MEC Selection Will Work

The selection process will have three stages:

  1. Assessment of the Research Project’s Adequacy – the candidate must submit a project of up to 15 pages, articulating their background with the research proposal.
  2. Oral Exam – in-person interview, recorded in audio, evaluating the consistency of the proposal and its relation to teaching practice.
  3. National Review of the Projects – an examining board will assign grades based on criteria of relevance, coherence, and potential for application.

The final score will be the weighted average between the oral exam and project assessment. In case of a tie, preference will be given to the one with the higher score in the oral exam, and if the tie persists, the older candidate will be preferred.
