“Modernization typically occurs after 15 years of service and is an important part of the elevator lifecycle, as it allows building managers and owners to update their vertical transportation equipment with modern solutions”, says Fernando Peiter, Marketing and Sales Director of Otis for Latin America. “In addition to proven technology, the Gen2 MOD brings energy efficiency, passenger comfort, and the ability to connect with a destination management system, enhancing the overall experience for the end user.”
Gen2 MOD Features
The modernization extends the useful life of existing elevators, providing an updated system with safety features and other technologies – without requiring a completely new elevator system.
The Gen2 MOD was developed for nearly all existing elevator configurations up to 24 stops, compatible with Otis and other brand equipment. The components will be produced at the Otis factory in São Bernardo do Campo.
This new modernization solution brings the benefits of Otis Gen2 elevator technology:
- The innovative flat polyurethane-coated belts of the Gen2 elevator are up to 20% lighter, require no lubrication, and last up to three times longer than conventional steel cables. These belts also eliminate contact between the metal of the pulleys and the metal of the steel cables used in traditional systems, resulting in a smoother and quieter ride for passengers. And, for safety, their condition is monitored 24 hours a day by Otis’s PULSE™ system, without the need to stop the equipment.
- The gearless machine of the Gen2 elevator, which is smaller and requires fewer moving parts, offers a compact design.
- The ReGen™ regenerative drive reduces energy consumption and generates clean energy by redirecting excess energy generated by the movement of the elevator back to the building.
- A standby control system, which places the elevator in standby mode and resumes when the call button is pressed.
Advanced Connectivity
With modernization, elevators can also be monitored by the Compass 360™ destination management system, which reduces travel time by grouping passengers by destinations and zones, and by the eCall™ app, which allows the passenger to call the elevator from their own smartphone, automatically activated via Bluetooth® or wireless technology.
