The Brazilian Livestock Sector Registered Growth In Several Areas In The Second Quarter Of 2025, With An Increase In Slaughter Of Animals, Egg Production, And Milk Acquisition, According To Data Released By IBGE.
The livestock sector closed the second quarter of 2025 with positive results in various segments. According to data released on Wednesday (13) by IBGE, the slaughter of cattle, pigs, and chickens showed growth both compared to the same period in 2024 and in relation to the first quarter of this year.
Additionally, there was an increase in egg production and the acquisition of raw milk, reinforcing the rising scenario in agricultural production.
Advancement In Cattle Slaughter
The slaughter of cattle totaled 10.40 million heads, an increase of 3.3% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and 5.4% in relation to the first three months of 2025.

The volume of cattle carcasses reached 2.63 million tons, representing a growth of 1.0% year-on-year and 6.0% compared to the previous quarter.
This performance demonstrates the strengthening of the production chain, supported by the pace of sanitary inspections at the municipal, state, and federal levels.
Pig Production Also Advances
In the same period, the slaughter of pigs reached 14.87 million heads.
This number signifies an increase of 1.6% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and 3.8% over the first quarter of this year.
The weight of carcasses reached 1.40 million tons, which represents an increase of 4.7% year-on-year and 6.1% compared to the first three months of 2025.
Most importantly, these figures confirm the trend of constant growth observed over the last few quarters.
Chicken Maintains Stable Pace
Regarding chicken, 1.64 billion heads were slaughtered in the second quarter of 2025.
This figure represents an increase of 1.1% compared to the same period in 2024 and stability compared to the first quarter of this year.
The total weight of the carcasses was 3.56 million tons, a growth of 2.7% year-on-year and 2.4% compared to the previous quarter.
Therefore, even with stability in the slaughtered volume, there was a gain in productivity.
Raw Milk Shows Increase
The acquisition of raw milk totaled 6.50 billion liters in the second quarter of 2025. This result shows a significant increase of 9.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In comparison to the first quarter of 2025, the increase was 0.1%.
The performance reinforces the importance of the dairy sector within national agricultural production, maintaining supply for industry and domestic consumption.
Leather Grows In A Mixed Scenario
Leather tanneries received 10.55 million whole pieces of raw bovine leather in the second quarter of this year. This volume represents an increase of 2.6% compared to the same period in 2024.
However, there was a decline of 1.9% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
The numbers come from units that process at least 5,000 pieces per year, according to the criteria of the IBGE survey.
Egg Production Continues To Rise
Chicken egg production reached 1.22 billion dozen in the second quarter of 2025.
This number represents growth of 4.0% compared to the second quarter of last year and 1.6% over the first quarter of this year.
Moreover, the increase confirms the consolidation of the segment as one of the most stable and important for food supply in the country.
