Discover The Main Causes of Dismissals in 2024 According to PUCPR Carreiras Research and Understand Which Skills Can Protect Your Career.

Conducted by PUCPR Carreiras, a survey from the 6th Career and Market Observatory identified that 50% of dismissals in 2024 were due to behavioral issues. The research was conducted online and involved 3,631 students, 3,655 alumni, and 583 recruitment companies from across the country.

Furthermore, automation of activities and cost-cutting accounted for 25% each of the layoffs.

The goal is to map the factors of dismissal and guide professionals on essential skills.

Thus, the initiative reinforces the importance of self-awareness and emotional intelligence in the workplace.

Why Did Dismissals in 2024 Spike Due to Behavior?

Behavioral failures were cited as the main reason for dismissals in 2024. Thus, negative attitudes can reduce productivity and generate conflicts.

“The market values professionals who combine technical competence with skills for good coexistence. A single individual with negative attitudes can compromise the entire team, conflicts arise, productivity falls, and talents are lost. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on self-awareness,” explains the coordinator of PUCPR Carreiras, Luciana Mariano.

Profile of Survey Participants

The study involved three distinct groups: students, alumni, and recruitment companies. Thus, the diversity of profiles reinforces the breadth of the results.

Therefore, the conclusions reflect both academic expectations and market practices.

Impact of Automation and Cost-Cutting on Dismissals in 2024

Meanwhile, 25% of dismissals in 2024 are due to the automation of tasks. In addition, the same percentage indicates a reduction in expenses and budget adjustments.

Therefore, sectors that invest in technology need to consider the realignment of functions and the reskilling of professionals.

Most Valued Skills by Employers

The survey also highlighted the competencies that stood out in the past year. The five main ones were:

  • Oral Communication (11.46%)
  • Planning (10.73%)
  • Problem Solving (10.18%)
  • Conflict Management (7.51%)
  • Written Communication (7.42%)

Changes in Priorities Since the Pandemic

Compared to 2021, when organizations were dealing with the effects of Covid-19, priorities have shifted.

At that time, problem-solving led with 12.58% of mentions. On the other hand, today there is greater emphasis on coexistence and self-management.

Investment in New Knowledge

Moreover, 76% of participants are actively investing in courses and training. Meanwhile, 16.32% of companies prioritize candidates who demonstrate an interest in continuous updating.

Thus, proactivity has become a criterion for selection and retention in the market.

The Importance of Emotional Intelligence

According to Luciana Mariano, professional success depends on the combination of technical and interpersonal skills.

“More than mastering tools or processes, it is necessary to develop emotional intelligence, empathy, respect, and responsibility in relationships, as well as to self-evaluate continuously, questioning oneself about their conduct in daily relationships and how they handle emotions and others in the workplace,” she assesses.

Thus, self-awareness gains ground as a continuous practice.

Finally, the research reinforces that those who keep their learning up to date can identify opportunities and collaborate better.

Therefore, professionals who update their skills and share experiences strengthen both their careers and the organizations.
