According to the State-Owned Company, the Resumption of Operations at the Araçás Field Will Allow a Production Capacity of Approximately 27%. The Bahia Terra Pole Is Still Under the Scrutiny of the ANP and Petrobras for Its Possible Privatization.
During last Friday, (03/31), Petrobras announced that it received authorization from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) to resume operations at the Araçás Field, located in the Bahia Terra Pole. The decision comes amid discussions by Jean Paul Prates, president of the state-owned company, about the continuation of the sale process for the region to the consortium formed between the companies Eneva and PetroReconcavo.

Petrobras announced this Friday that it received authorization from ANP to resume production at the Araçás field, located in the Bahia Terra pole, in the Recôncavo Basin.

The ANP had suspended operations at the Bahia Terra Pole at the end of 2022 after identifying integrity issues. Petrobras, under the government of Jair Bolsonaro, initiated the sale process for the pole, including the Araçás Field, and had already received proposals from a consortium formed by Eneva and PetroReconcavo.
The president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, from the Workers’ Party (PT), stated last week that the company will respect signed contracts for the sale of assets, but that the liquidation of the Bahia Terra Pole will be re-evaluated from “a new perspective,” and there is still no decision regarding the future of the fields.
“What is signed will be fulfilled, what is not signed will be reviewed. [The negotiation for the Bahia Terra Pole] will continue to be addressed within a new perspective,” stated the current president of Petrobras.
With the resumption of production at the Araçás field, Petrobras will continue to operate the pole, whose future remains uncertain. The company continues to evaluate possibilities and reassess negotiation strategies for the Bahia Terra Pole.
Future of the Bahia Terra Pole Remains Uncertain for the State-Owned Company, Even After Authorization for Production Resumption at the Araçás Field by ANP
The Bahia Terra Pole is one of Petrobras’s oil and natural gas exploration areas, located in the Recôncavo Baiano region.
With the authorization to resume production at the Araçás field, Petrobras seeks to recover part of the lost production and maintain its operations in the pole.
However, the company still faces challenges in deciding the future of the pole, especially regarding the purchase proposals made by the consortium formed by Eneva and PetroReconcavo.
The resumption of production at the Araçás field is an important step for Petrobras, but many uncertainties regarding the future of the Bahia Terra Pole remain.
The company will need to carefully evaluate the available options and decide on the best strategy to follow, considering both financial interests and the social and environmental impacts involved in the operation of the pole.
Now, the ANP and the Brazilian oil and gas market are awaiting updates from Petrobras regarding the future of production at the Araçás Field and the sale of the Bahia Terra Pole.
