Through the West Tellus rig, the Brazilian oil and gas giant, Petrobras, identified the presence of hydrocarbons in the pioneer well of the CM-657 block, located in the pre-salt of the Campos Basin
Well 1-BRSA-1376D-RJS (Naru) is located approximately 308 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of 2.892 meters. Petrobras said this Wednesday (23) that the well verified the presence of hydrocarbons in carbonate reservoirs in the region of pre-salt.

Well data will be analyzed to better assess potential and direct exploratory activities in the area, added the Petrobras.
Block CM-657 was acquired in March 2018, in the 15th bidding round of the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), under the Concession regime. The asset is located in the southern sector of the Campos Basin.

Petrobras is the operator of the block and holds a 30 percent stake, in partnership with ExxonMobil (40 percent) and Equinor (30 percent).
The drilling operation at the asset began in June, with the Seadrill drillship West Tellus.
