The construction of the tunnel for the attempted fuel theft from the state-owned pipeline is being investigated by the Civil Police of Campinas (SP).
Petrobras was notified about the incident after the asphalt began to sink and the tunnel drew the attention of the city hall and Sanasa, where they were able to confirm that the hole in the asphalt was not a problem with the pavement or the pipes.
Representatives from Petrobras were called to observe the site and were able to identify that the tunnel, supported by wood, was just a few meters from the pipeline, with about 5 meters of drilling left for the criminals to reach the state-owned duct.
The pipeline transports various types of fuels. Petrobras filed a police report at the station, but no suspects were arrested.
According to Petrobras, this case marks the fifth attempted fuel theft from pipelines in less than 2 years at the state-owned company.
