Petrobras, Shell, Total, and other Operators in Mero Opt for Stainless Steel Tube Umbilicals

Petrobras and other partners in the Mero pre-salt will be supplied by Sandvik with stainless steel umbilical tubes in the Brazilian offshore. According to the company, field developments in the region typically use thermoplastic hose umbilicals.

For this contract, Sandvik will supply over 500 km (310 miles) of super duplex stainless steel umbilical tubes Sandvik SAF 2507 encapsulated by Prysmian GroupMero is managed by the Libra Consortium, a partnership between Petrobras, Total, Shell Brasil, CNPC, and CNOOC.

The initial phase, Mero 1, requires 17 wells in water depths of about 2,000 m (6,562 ft).
