The Brazilian Multinational WEG Will Supply Many Equipment for Petrobras’s FPSOs That Will Be Installed in the Búzios and Mero Fields
WEG signed a major contract with Petrobras, which will result in approximately R$ 160 million in revenue, the Brazilian multinational reported yesterday (30). The project’s scope is aimed at supplying equipment for the FPSO platforms of Búzios V and Mero 2, in the pre-salt layer.
Petrobras and WEG – Equipment to Be Supplied Within the Scope of the Contract
According to WEG, the project includes hundreds of inverters, low voltage motors, 60 medium voltage motors, and 8 turbo generators. The latter has the following specifications:
- 4 units of 36 MW 3600 rpm
- 4 units of 33 MW 1800 rpm
About the FPSO Búzios V and Mero 2 Platforms
Búzios V – According to Petrobras, the FPSO contracted with Modec will start operations in 2022, named Almirante Barroso. The unit will have the capacity to process 150,000 barrels of oil daily.

Mero 2 – This platform will be constructed by SBM and will be named FPSO Sepetiba, processing 12 million cubic meters of gas and 180,000 barrels of oil per day as well.
