According to Petrobras, the tests form an important barrier to contagion, alongside other measures such as the use of masks, increased sanitation, changes in operational routines to facilitate distancing between people, and, primarily, the reduction of in-person attendance – over 90 percent of administrative employees are working from home, and only half of the workforce in operational areas is working on-site to maintain activities essential to society.

As a preventive barrier to contagion, Covid-19 tests are applied to both Petrobras’s direct employees and employees of third-party companies.
More than 6,000 tests have been allocated to Petrobras employees and over 9,000 tests for professionals from companies that provide services to the state-owned company, both offshore and onshore
Rapid tests, which detect antibodies, have been used for screening professionals before they begin activities in operational areas such as platforms and refineries.
According to Petrobras, more than 200 asymptomatic professionals were identified in the screening with a positive result for immature antibodies (indicating that the virus may still be active in the body), demonstrating the effectiveness of the tests as a barrier against contagion, as otherwise these individuals would not have been counted, nor isolated or monitored by health teams. Another 4,200 are RT-PCR tests, used on symptomatic employees, contacts, and in other specific situations to confirm or rule out diagnoses.
“Since the beginning of the pandemic, Petrobras has started efforts to acquire testing kits and contract specialized services. Even with bottlenecks in the supply of inputs and testing services, the company was one of the first to acquire Covid-19 tests.” said the state-owned company.
The Company also reported that ”Services from 15 laboratories have been contracted, and tests have been made available via drive-thru and 29 collection points for employees throughout Brazil. The company has been acquiring more rapid test kits to, in accordance with market capacity, expand the coverage and frequency of testing in operational units, always considering technical criteria and the health situation of the region.”
