Petrobras’ Vitória 10,000 Drillship Goes to Auction for the Second Time After First Attempt Fails and Market Awaits Improved Conditions
In March of this year, Petrobras made the decision to sell the Vitória 10,000 Drillship (NS-30), the first attempt, however, was not successful. The auction held on September 18 via the Petronect portal ended without bids, prompting the Brazilian oil company to significantly reduce the starting bid value, which is now US$ 5 million, compared to the original minimum value of US$ 47.5 million.
Low Interest
The market is not very enthusiastic about the auction and it is quite possible that the drillship will “run aground” (literally) again, as interested parties would like to see the same model that was used in the sale of the Sete Brasil drillships, when a charter contract was tied to the deal.

The request is due to the large number of contractless drillships in the market, increasing the supply of this type of equipment currently available.
Another reason that is diminishing the attractiveness of this second auction is the cost of repairs that will be needed to make it operational again.
The drillship has been in the Badejo field, in the Campos Basin, for 2 years, maintained in warm stack by a Petrobras team.
The drillship, which has the capacity to drill in 3,000 meters of water depth for a long time, was involved in a legal dispute between Petrobras and the former Schahin.
The unit was built in South Korea by the Samsung shipyard and began operations for Petrobras in 2011 under the old Schahin name, Base.
The auction is scheduled for October 30 and will bring a novelty: it will not be possible to make free value bids in subsequent offers, meaning the difference between the bids of interested parties must be at least US$ 1,000.00.
