With this measure, the state-owned company reaffirms its commitment to contribute to the development of an open, competitive, and sustainable gas market in the country.
According to Petrobras, the processing capacity of natural gas will be offered in two phases:
First, the capacity will be offered to agents who have rights to the production of natural gas from producing fields, in order to ensure the continuity of oil and gas production in the country, which, according to the company, is already underway.
The second phase refers to the offer of available processing capacity to other interested agents. Petrobras informs that the second phase will occur after the negotiations of the first and will be conducted annually.
Petrobras Opens Market
Currently, Petrobras buys natural gas volumes from other producers, both onshore and offshore, in Brazil, processes them in its units, hires transportation through pipelines, and resells the gas to state gas distributors.
When the new model is implemented, natural gas producers will not necessarily need to sell gas to Petrobras.
Producers will be able to hire part of Petrobras’ processing capacity and will continue to own the gas produced and all its derivatives, allowing them to negotiate their products directly with the market.
Gas Processing Plants
The natural gas processing units are industrial plants where the fractions of hydrocarbons present in the gas are separated, resulting in various products, including natural gas, within specifications suitable for consumption.
