New Feature from the Central Bank Will Allow Installment Purchases with Pix Starting in September, Even for Those Without a Credit Card
The Installment Pix is the next big innovation in Brazil’s instant payment system. The feature, announced by the Central Bank in April, will allow users to split purchases directly via Pix — no credit card required.
According to the Central Bank itself, the Installment Pix is expected to be launched in September of this year. The aim is to make Pix more competitive in retail and broaden access to digital credit for millions of Brazilians who do not have a bank card.
How the Installment Pix Will Work in Practice
Operation will be straightforward: at the time of payment, the customer can choose to split the amount, just like with a credit card. The seller will receive the full amount immediately, while the consumer will pay the installments directly to the bank where they hold an account, with interest charged by the institution.

Heir worked at thirteen in an ice cream factory without revealing he was the owner’s son; today, at twenty-five, he leads the best-selling ice cream brand for home consumption in the Northeast, grosses almost R$ 300 million, has 145 stores, and competes with multinationals with regional flavors.

Neymar elevates the status of the Northeast with a billion-dollar megaproject of 28 luxury developments, 100 km of turquoise-blue beaches, 10 residential projects already under construction, multimillion-dollar beachfront mansions, an exclusive sports arena, and an expected impressive movement of R$ 7.5 billion in Pernambuco and Alagoas.
For example: if a person buys a product for R$ 1,000 and chooses to pay in 4 installments, the bank will charge monthly payments with added interest, while the recipient will receive the R$ 1,000 instantly. The operation is done within the Pix environment itself.
The new modality will be available for payments and transfers, with no distinction between individuals or businesses. The expectation is that this will further boost the use of Pix in commerce and replace part of the transactions made with credit cards.
Why Is the Installment Pix Important?
The Central Bank estimates that around 60 million Brazilians do not have access to credit cards, which limits the consumption of higher value goods or installment payments. The Installment Pix democratizes access to credit, using a tool that is already established and free.
While some banks already offer similar solutions, such as Pix with revolving credit, these options depend on the customer’s card. With the new standardized functionality, all participating institutions will follow common rules, ensuring transparency and a more balanced competition.
And the Pix in Guarantee? Will It Work Together?
Another feature announced by the Central Bank is the Pix in Guarantee, which will allow companies to offer receivables via Pix as collateral in credit operations. However, this tool is not expected to be available until 2026.
The goal of the Pix in Guarantee is to facilitate access to business credit, especially for small businesses, using their own receivables as collateral for financing.
What Changes with the Installment Pix?
- More access to credit without the need for a card
- Installment payments with immediate confirmation for the seller
- Option integrated into the Pix environment of the bank or fintech itself
- Standardization of rules and increased competition among financial institutions
The expectation is that the Installment Pix will reduce the use of traditional credit cards and become a relevant alternative for consumers and retailers nationwide.
