Sale of Atlantic Nickel and Mineração Vale Verde to Spac ACG Acquisition Company: A New Transaction in the Mining Sector
The manager Appian has reached an agreement to sell its subsidiaries, Atlantic Nickel and Mineração Vale Verde, to Spac ACG Acquisition Company, a company listed on the London Stock Exchange, which owns a large mining operation and manufacturers. Atlantic Nickel and Mineração Vale Verde are owners of the nickel and copper mines Serrote and Santa Rita. These mines had been sold to the South African mining company Sibanye Stillwater last year, but the contract was terminated by the buyer.
Strategic Partnership Between Miner, Manufacturer, and Investment Fund
Spac ACG is composed of a group of investors, including mining company Glencore, manufacturer Stellantis (resulting from the merger between Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot) and the investment fund in mining La Mancha Resource Capital. These investors will own 51% of the company resulting from the transaction.
Additionally, the battery production subsidiary of the manufacturer Volkswagen, PowerCo, will also participate in the operation with a prepayment for future demand for ore. The deal is also supported by banks such as ING and Societe Generale.

The most abundant mineral on Earth makes up about 38% of the planet’s volume and dominates the mantle hundreds of kilometers deep, but it is so inaccessible that humanity only managed to touch it thanks to a meteorite that fell in Australia in 1879.
The acquisition of Atlantic Nickel and Mineração Vale Verde was valued at US$ 1 billion, with the transaction being conducted in cash and debt-free. Furthermore, Appian will retain 2.75% of smelting royalties from the Santa Rita mine, which will provide ongoing financial benefits for the company. This strategic sale will allow Appian to focus on other investment opportunities in the mining sector.
