Norwegian Resident Wakes Up to Find 134-Meter Ship Grounded Just A Few Meters From His Home; Despite The Scare, No One Was Injured and There Was No Serious Damage
Johan Helberg woke up on Thursday morning (22) to an unusual scene in front of his house, on the outskirts of Trondheim, Norway. A container ship measuring 134 meters long had run aground just a few meters from his residence. The news came via phone from his neighbor, Jostein Jorgensen, who called in a panic to report what had happened.
Upon leaving his house, Johan encountered the NCL Salten ship, from North Sea Container Line, trapped on a narrow strip of rocky land. In good spirits, he described the situation to TV2: “It’s a rather bulky new neighbor, but it will soon be gone.”
The vessel was carrying 16 crew members at the time of the incident. During the grounding, a pipe from Johan’s home heating system was damaged.

China is designing a container ship with a thorium nuclear reactor that will operate for 40 years without refueling, and the 25,000-container giant from Jiangnan Shipyard will cross oceans without emitting carbon in an industry that burns 300 million tons of fuel per year.
He remarked that if the ship had hit a nearby rock, it could have violently collided with his home. “It was just a few meters short,” he said.
Despite the scare, there were no injuries. No oil leak was reported either. Local authorities confirmed that the crew members of the container ship were safe.
The impact caused a landslide about 100 meters wide, leading to a partial evacuation of the area as a precautionary measure. Johan and two other neighbors had to temporarily leave their homes.
According to Erik Vagnild, operational chief of the police in the Trøndelag district, the structures of the homes in the area were not compromised. “They were a bit surprised when they woke up. They saw a boat leaning against their house. But there was no damage to the property,” he told TV2.
The incident ended without serious consequences, only with the unusual presence of a ship in the residents’ backyard.
