The Port Itapoá Terminal Will Now Benefit from More Speed and Infrastructure After the Acquisition of Two New Reach Stackers and New Investments That Will Be Applied to Ensure Better Operation of the Location
The management of Port Itapoá, located in Santa Catarina, received last Thursday (05/05) two new Reach Stacker forklifts. Thus, the terminal of the complex will have much more speed in the cargo transportation operations, since the equipment ensures quality infrastructure so that the time between the yard and the ship is reduced in the activities of handling goods throughout the complex.
Two New Reach Stacker Forklifts Will Ensure More Agility and Speed in Cargo Transportation at the Port Itapoá Terminal in Santa Catarina
The two new forklifts at Port Itapoá arrived at the complex this week and have already begun to be used in the terminal to ensure more benefits in the operations. This is the new move by the port administration to invest in quality infrastructure and ensure more efficiency in cargo transportation. Now, the handling time between the yard and the ship will be significantly reduced, allowing the port to carry out even more activities in the same period.
Thus, the main objective of acquiring the two new Reach Stackers is to enhance service within the terminal, complementing operations with the RTG, a mobile crane used in port operations to handle and stack containers. This will provide much greater control over the operations, as reducing cargo transport time will allow more attention to other logistical issues within the supply chain of goods movement at Port Itapoá.

One of the main problems that Port Itapoá faced before acquiring the Reach Stacker forklifts was the waiting time for trucks to transport cargo. The company stated that around 1,600 trucks pass through the complex every day for activities, and due to the lack of adequate infrastructure, there was overcrowding at the complex.
Now, trucks will have much faster operations, as Kalmar equipment can lift 45 tons on the spreaders and provide much more agility in moving goods between the ship and the yard.
Port Itapoá Continues to Invest in Acquisitions for the Infrastructure of the Complex, Aiming for Better Quality in Cargo Transportation Operations
Port Itapoá has an investment plan in infrastructure for 2022 aimed at increasing its service capacity in cargo transportation operations. Therefore, in addition to the acquisition of the two Reach Stacker forklifts, the complex has also requested five more RTGs, a mobile crane on tires, specifically for container handling in the yard. All these pieces of equipment contribute to providing a much more adequate structure for receiving even more vehicles for the movement of goods.
Additionally, the port terminal already has 17 of these machines, from the brand ZPMC, but with somewhat outdated technology. Now, the new requested equipment will be remotely controlled and, with that, Port Itapoá will be the first in Brazil to have this technology. The delivery forecast for the machines is for the beginning of 2023, and the administration intends to continue making investments focused on the infrastructure of the complex.
The ultimate goal of Port Itapoá with the investments in infrastructure is to reach the mark of an additional 200,000 m² of yard space at the terminal, totaling 455,000 m²; in addition to expanding a pier, which currently measures 800m in length, to 1,210m by the end of 2023.
