Government representatives and executives went to check out the improvements in rail infrastructure for access to ports that are being implemented in the Ports

Representatives of the National Land Transport Secretariat of the Ministry of Infrastructure ( SNTT / MInfra ) and the logistics operator MRS, which manages a railway network in the States of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and São Paulo, visited the Ports of Rio de Janeiro and Itaguaí on the last 14th and 15th, respectively. The objective was to discuss, with the directors and managers of Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ), and with representatives of SNTT/MInfra, the improvements in the rail infrastructure for access to ports.

Other news about recent projects and contracts

According to the Director of Business and Sustainability at Docas do Rio, Jean Paulo Castro e Silva, the visit of the delegation from MRS and SNTT/MInfra to the ports managed by Docas do Rio is part of the context of field recognition of the investments proposed by MRS in the process of renewing the concession of the railway network operated by it: “The set of projects proposed by the concessionaire aim to increase the efficiency of logistical operations by rail and offer greater safety in urban crossings, bringing gains in competitiveness and sustainability for users.”

Director Jean Paulo also explained that, “since the arrival at the ports is the last mile of the main stretches of the railway network, the proposed investments are fundamental to guarantee that the end of the route does not become an operational bottleneck, mitigating the potential gains of the other investments to be made along the network. Therefore, Docas do Rio considers that the projects proposed by MRS in the ports managed by the company are of great public interest”.

Areas of Porto where infrastructure works and improvements are taking place

After presenting the projects in its office to representatives of SNTT/MInfra and Docas do Rio, the MRS delegation visited the areas of the Port of Rio de Janeiro where works are being proposed for the improvement and expansion of the railway infrastructure, as well as as well as the entire logistical and operational context. At the Port of Itaguaí, visitors attended a presentation on the lines that serve the leased terminals and the need for investment to improve the operational performance of the terminals at the Port of Itaguaí.

At both meetings, on behalf of Docas do Rio, the CEO, Francisco Antonio de Magalhães Laranjeira; the Director of Port Management, Mário Povia; the Director of Business and Sustainability, Jean Paulo Castro e Silva; in addition to port superintendents, Land Access managers and specialists in the Planning area. In the Port of Rio de Janeiro, the administrative-financial director of the Port Authority, Indalecio Alvarez, also participated, in addition to managers who work in the areas of Engineering and Port Guard. MRS was represented by a team composed of directors, managers and employees. Among the MInfra members, Thiago Douglas Alvarenga Camelo and Álvaro Simões da Conceição Neto participated.

At the beginning of this month of June, MRS released a daily record, which broke the mark of 640,3 thousand tons transported, considering the various customer loads. For the director-president of Docas do Rio, Francisco Antonio de Magalhães Laranjeira, “the large volumes of cargo transported by rail show the size of the importance of this modal for the port infrastructure, especially for the flow over long distances, and the search for improvement and for growth needs the planned investments”.
