Pre-Salt Achieves New Record Both in Oil and Natural Gas Production
For the second consecutive month, production in the pre-salt area reached a record high, both in oil and natural gas. In August, 2.776 MMboe/d (million barrels of oil equivalent per day) were produced. Of this total, 2.201 MMbbl/d (million barrels per day) of oil and 91.398 MMm3/d (million m3 per day) of natural gas were produced.

In the previous record, in July, oil production was at 2.179 MMbbl/d and natural gas at 88.88 MMm3. The data was released today (2) in the Monthly Production Bulletin of Oil and Natural Gas from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
According to the ANP, the result represents a 1.4% increase compared to the previous month and a 14.4% increase compared to August 2019. “The production in the pre-salt originated from 117 wells and accounted for 70.7% of national production.”

Pre-Salt Production at National Level
Also in August, national production reached 3.927 Mmboe/d, according to the bulletin. Of this total, 3.087 MMbbl/d is oil and 134 MMm3/d is natural gas. In oil production, there was an increase of 0.3% compared to the previous month and a 3.3% increase compared to August 2019. In natural gas production, the increase was 2.4% compared to July and 0.1% compared to the same month last year.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 33 fields had their productions temporarily interrupted in August. Among them, 16 are offshore and 17 are onshore. Additionally, 60 offshore production facilities remained with production halted.
The Main Highlight Goes to the Oil and Natural Gas Producer in the Campos Basin
The largest producer of oil and natural gas was the Tupi field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, which recorded 1.004 MMbbl/d of oil and 44.5 MMm3/d of natural gas.
The installation with the highest oil production was the Petrobras 77 platform, which produces in the Búzios field through four interconnected wells, with a production of 165.598 Mbbl/d of oil. The floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO) Cidade de Itaguaí was the installation with the highest natural gas production. It operates in the Tupi field through seven interconnected wells and produced 7.337 Mmm³/d.
