Diesel S-10 Registers Highest Increase in the Country in the Midwest, with Average Price of R$ 6.34 per Liter in August. Learn About the Impacts.
The price of diesel in the Midwest recorded in August the highest increase among all regions of Brazil, according to the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL).
The diesel S-10, the most commonly used fuel in modern vehicles, reached an average of R$ 6.34 per liter, surpassing the national average and directly impacting carriers and drivers in the region.
Experts attribute the rise to external factors, such as fluctuations in oil prices and exchange rates.

Gasoline at R$ 4.99 makes drivers wait more than an hour at Havan gas stations in Santa Catarina, during a “zero tax” promotion with a limit of 15 liters per car and 25,000 liters available across five units of the network.

Tax-Free Day in BH will have gasoline at R$ 3.64, diesel with a significant reduction, and lines during the early morning; see rules, limits, and times to refuel with a discount in Belo Horizonte

Fuel price hikes lead the US to attempt diluting gasoline with ethanol, showing a different reality from Brazil, which has been using a 30% blend at gas stations for years.

ANP data reveals that prices for gasoline, ethanol, and diesel are falling at the pumps, but cooking gas is increasing and could offset any savings in the budgets of Brazilian families.
Diesel S-10 Leads Increase in the Midwest
While regular diesel rose by 0.65% in the month, reaching R$ 6.19, diesel S-10 showed an increase of 0.81%, with an average price of R$ 6.22 in the country. However, the largest growth of S-10 occurred precisely in the Midwest, with a rise of 1.28%.
“The increase is linked to the influence of external variables, such as fluctuations in oil prices and exchange rates,” explains Renato Mascarenhas, Director of Supply Network at Edenred Mobility.
This trend worries the transport sector, especially truck drivers and logistics companies, which depend directly on diesel and S-10 fuel to operate.
Regional Comparison Shows Price Disparities
The IPTL survey also highlighted that, for regular diesel, the Southeast recorded the highest increase in the country, with a rise of 1.15%, reaching R$ 6.14 per liter.
On the other hand, the largest decrease was observed in the North region, with a drop of 0.73% and an average price of R$ 6.76.
For diesel S-10, no region recorded a retraction in August, reinforcing the trend of fuel appreciation.
Among the cheapest regions, the South stood out with R$ 6.00 for regular diesel and R$ 6.06 for S-10, even after increases of 0.67% and 1.68%, respectively.
The highest prices for diesel S-10 were found in the North, with an average price of R$ 6.60, remaining stable compared to July.
States with the Highest Fuel Prices
The detailed analysis by state revealed that Acre led the prices of regular diesel in August, with an average of R$ 7.59, even after a slight reduction of 0.26% compared to the previous month.
In the case of diesel S-10, stability prevailed, but the high prices in the Midwest draw attention for putting pressure on transportation costs and various products in the region.
The increase in diesel and S-10 prices reflects not only internal factors but also Brazil’s dependence on fluctuations in the international oil market.
Impacts of the Increase in the Midwest
The appreciation of diesel in the Midwest tends to generate chain effects. Transport companies may pass on the costs to consumers, impacting the final price of agricultural and industrial products.
Additionally, small business owners and self-employed drivers who use S-10 as fuel may feel the effect of the increase in their family budgets.
Experts recommend constant monitoring of price indices and strategic fuel planning to mitigate the impacts in daily life.
