The ANP Data For This Week Is Not Optimistic For The Final Consumer, As Diesel Prices Have Reached Historical Highs, Surpassing Gasoline, A Strong Reflection Of The International Scenario Of Rising Fuel Prices.
The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) released data last Friday, (06/24), regarding fuel prices in Brazil during the past week. For the final consumer, the scenario is becoming more critical, as the rise in the international market has been influencing Brazil and diesel has surpassed gasoline at Brazilian gas stations this week, causing concern in the segment.
ANP Data Shows That Diesel Prices Surpass Gasoline And Reflect International Crisis In Fuel Supply And Petrobras Adjustments
For the first time since 2004, diesel prices per liter have exceeded gasoline prices per liter in much of Brazilian territory, according to data released by ANP this week. The high prices in the country are occurring due to the unstable international scenario in the fuel market, which caused an increase in commodity prices and led Petrobras to adjust diesel prices by 14.2% and gasoline by 5.2% on the 18th.
According to data collected by ANP in recent days, the price of diesel in Brazil reached R$ 7.568/liter during the week of June 19 to 25, while the average price of gasoline was R$ 7.390/liter.

Lula reveals a masterstroke by Petrobras to undo a deal made by Bolsonaro, which involves the return of an important refinery that currently produces less than half of what was expected and makes Brazil dependent on international diesel.

A study confirms that the natural gas sector will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil by 0.5% and accelerate the energy transition by 2026.

Petrobras implements a severe adjustment and confirms a 55% increase in the price of aviation kerosene with a proposal for installment payments for the companies.
Furthermore, the rise in fuel prices in Brazil is not limited to just one region, as the entire national territory is facing the issue. Additionally, according to ANP’s results, the highest price for diesel was found at R$ 8.850/liter in Acre, while the lowest was R$ 6.290/liter in Rio de Janeiro.
In relation to data from the previous week, the increase was 9.6% for diesel and 2.2% for gasoline, a significant rise for the final consumer in Brazilian territory. Thus, these are the highest final prices paid by consumers for gasoline and diesel since ANP began weekly price surveys in 2004, confirming the fuel crisis that is now also affecting the Brazilian market.
International Fuel Crisis Led Petrobras To Make Adjustments In Fuel Prices And The State Company Is Now Under Pressure From The Government Regarding Prices
The main motivation for the high fuel prices in Brazil, according to ANP data, is the current instability of the international market for products caused by geopolitical conflicts and the crisis in global supply.
Thus, Petrobras had to make new adjustments to diesel and gasoline prices in Brazil over the past few weeks, and as a result, the rise in prices continues to climb in the country.
Consequently, the Bolsonaro government is now pressuring the state-owned company not to pass on the high prices from the international market to Brazil, but the company continues to have no alternatives for the problem. The primary result of this pressure was the dismissal of José Mauro Coelho, who requested to leave the position of company president after pressure from the Brazilian government.
Currently, Petrobras adopts a floating price policy based on international market values, which is why crises in international fuel supply directly affect national prices. Therefore, the government is now seeking a change in the taxation of diesel and gasoline so that the increase in values does not reach even more alarming levels.
