National Petroleum Agency (ANP) Reports 4% Increase in Average Price of Gasoline Per Liter for the Third Consecutive Week

For the third consecutive week, Brazilian consumers are facing an increase in fuel prices, particularly gasoline at gas stations. According to data collected by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), the average price of gasoline per liter across the country rose from R$ 5.65 to R$ 5.88, representing a 4% increase in just one week. This increase comes amid a series of price hikes and challenges in the fuel sector, according to the website Notícias Automotivas.

This increase comes approximately two weeks after Petrobras adjusted prices at refineries. At that time, the increase was 41 cents per liter, raising the cost for distributors to R$ 2.93 per liter. This alteration in the state-owned company’s prices at refineries directly impacts the amounts charged by gas stations across the country.

Price Variations of Fuels by Region in Brazil

Divergent gasoline prices by region remain pronounced. In the latest ANP analysis, the highest gasoline prices were found, as usual, in the Northern region of the country. In Amazonas, the average price of gasoline per liter reached an exorbitant R$ 7.62. The state of São Paulo also recorded a high price, reaching R$ 7.49 per liter. In Acre, gasoline hit the maximum price of R$ 7.48, followed by Pará, where the average price was R$ 6.94. States like Rondônia, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, and Bahia saw their maximum prices settle at R$ 6.89.

Impact on Fuel Distribution and New Pricing Policies

Recently, the National Federation of Fuel and Lubricants Trade (Fecombustíveis) warned of restrictions on fuel deliveries at some distribution bases, although it emphasized that there is no imminent shortage of products for gas stations.

It is worth noting that this price increase by Petrobras is the first since the implementation of its new pricing policy announced in May. This policy eliminated import parity in price variations based on oil and dollar prices, introducing a new dynamic that is now reflected at gas pumps across the country.
As fuel price fluctuations continue to generate discussions and concerns among consumers, the fuel sector seeks solutions to balance supply and demand, maintaining transparency in price formation and ensuring that consumers are not unduly penalized by the constantly changing economic scenario.
