MSGÁS President Visits Logás Bases in Minas Gerais, Highlighting Technical Trip and Service Contract to Expand CNG and LNG Modal in Mato Grosso do Sul.
The president of MSGÁS, Cristiane Schmidt, made an important visit to the Logás bases located in Poços de Caldas and Extrema, in Minas Gerais. This meeting aimed to closely evaluate the operation of Logás’ bases, bringing ideas that will be adapted for Mato Grosso do Sul starting in 2025. This effort is viewed as a strategic step for the expansion of the natural gas company in the region.
The technical trip included a detailed analysis of the facilities, highlighting the importance of a robust infrastructure for MSGÁS’ future. This move aims to enhance the technologies used and expand the supply of CNG and LNG in future projects. The cooperation between the companies reflects a commitment to sustainable growth and energy development.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, the technical trip comes after the mining company won the public call 001/2023. This public call foresees the development of the CNG modal (Compressed Natural Gas) and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) in the state, with a service contract for five years. This project is part of MSGÁS’s expansion plan, aimed at supplying new municipalities with Natural Gas and CNG.

Technical Visit to Logás Bases
During the morning, Cristiane Schmidt visited the largest natural gas decompression base in Brazil, located in Extrema, and then arrived at the compression station in Poços de Caldas. On this tour, she checked the advanced technologies used in the processes of compression, transportation, and decompression of natural gas.
‘Our presence at Logás bases in Minas Gerais was crucial for us to closely understand the technologies and infrastructure that will be replicated in Mato Grosso do Sul starting in 2025. This logistics recognition is essential to ensure that MSGÁS has a solid and capable partner for the development of CNG and LNG modal’, emphasized Cristiane Schmidt.
Logás Infrastructure and Partnership with MSGÁS
The mining company will be responsible for the compression, transportation, and decompression of natural gas for MSGÁS, operating as an operator, similar to the work it is already doing for the Gas Company of Minas Gerais (GASMIG). The transportation will be carried out to meet MSGÁS’s expansion plan, which aims to supply the demand in new municipalities in Mato Grosso do Sul.
The project will use trucks equipped with CNG and LNG tanks, all powered 100% by Compressed Natural Gas. To this end, Logás will implement two compression bases in Campo Grande and Três Lagoas. These projects are currently in the environmental licensing phase, with construction expected to begin in the coming months. Alexandre Garcia, CEO of Logás S/A, estimates that the distributed volume could reach 1 million m³ per month.
Expansion and Capillarity of Logás
‘We are expanding our capillarity throughout Brazil to bring natural gas to regions where pipelines do not reach. With the bases in Mato Grosso do Sul, we will be able to better meet the demands of the Midwest’, reinforced Garcia. In addition to the bases in Mato Grosso do Sul, Logás is implementing other compression units in Linhares (ES) and Ribeirão Preto (SP).
Founded in 2005, Logás is a company of the Golar LNG group, specialized in the distribution of natural gas, and a strategic partner of major distributors such as Gasmig, MSGÁS, and ESgás, in addition to private sector companies. Logás currently has four compression bases located in Poços de Caldas, Ipatinga, Betim, and Barbacena.
Future Installations and Infrastructure of Logás
The company is studying the implementation of new units in various regions of Brazil, consolidating its position as one of the main players in natural gas distribution in the country. This expansion is accompanied by a continuous commitment to the development of modern and efficient infrastructure to meet the growing energy demand, especially in regions where gas transportation is more challenging.
