R$ 600 Million Investment in Blueberry, Strawberry, and Avocado Can Transform Northeastern State into New Agricultural Hub

The Ibiapaba Mountain Range in Ceará may become a new hub for high-value fruit production. According to the Diário do Nordeste, a group formed by Brazilian and Spanish producers is negotiating an investment of approximately R$ 600 million in the region.

The project includes the cultivation of blueberries, strawberries, and avocados, with operations expected to begin in 2026.

Ongoing Negotiations

The information was confirmed by Sílvio Carlos Ribeiro, executive secretary of the Agribusiness of the Secretary of Economic Development (SDE) of Ceará, during the PEC Northeast 2025. According to him, negotiations are still ongoing and should be concluded by the end of this year.

One of the main challenges for the project’s realization is land acquisition. The group has already visited the state three times to assess the business’s viability. So far, the names of the companies involved have not been disclosed.

International and National Experience

The Spanish producers participating in the negotiation have experience in the city of Huelva in southwestern Spain, a region known for fruit cultivation. On the Brazilian side, the entrepreneurs are already active in production in São Paulo.

This combination of experiences is seen as a positive differential for the project’s implementation in Ceará. Expertise in different climates and cultivation methods can contribute to successful production in the Ibiapaba Mountain Range.

Blueberry: High Demand and Growth Potential

Among the planned fruits, blueberries, also known as blueberries, have been identified as one of the most promising crops for Ceará’s agribusiness. According to Sílvio Carlos Ribeiro, blueberries are one of the highest value-added crops in the world.

He highlights that there is strong production growth in countries like Peru, Morocco, and China, and that international demand remains high. In Ceará, tests and small productions of the fruit have already been carried out. With the investment, the expectation is to significantly expand the cultivation scale.

Strawberries Are Already a Reality in the State

The strawberry, in turn, already has consolidated production in the Ibiapaba Mountain Range. The executive secretary explains that the fruit has great potential but requires investments in technology and infrastructure.

With the support of the Spanish-Brazilian group, the intention is to further expand this crop in the state.

Avocado Might Be the New Bet

The avocado represents the major novelty of the project. If the investment is confirmed, the fruit will be cultivated on a large scale in Ceará.

Currently, avocados are not widely produced in Brazil, which could open doors for the state to explore the export market.

According to the secretary, avocados have distinct nutritional characteristics compared to traditional avocados.

The fruit has a thicker, darker skin, is smaller, and has a higher concentration of nutrients and fibers due to the lower amount of liquid. The United States and Mexico are currently the main consumer markets.

The cultivation in Ceará would be concentrated in regions with varying altitudes, such as the Ibiapaba Mountain Range and Cariri.

According to Sílvio Carlos Ribeiro, the state offers favorable conditions that have attracted investor interest. Factors such as logistics, good natural lighting, and suitable climate allow for the production of high-value-added crops.

PEC Northeast 2025 Boosts Business

The announcement of the negotiations took place during the PEC Northeast 2025, held at the Ceará Events Center in Fortaleza. The event gathers over 600 companies and institutions from fifteen agribusiness segments, occupying an area of 30,000 square meters.

Amílcar Silveira, president of the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of Ceará (Faec, stated that the fair is the largest event in the sector in the North and Northeast.

The projection is that the fair will generate around R$ 150 million in business, opening opportunities for producers from various agribusiness sectors.
